Listener feedback Brought to you By Power Tank:

Hey guys I just listened to your latest podcast and I wanted to address the receiver winch. I don’t have one on my Jeep, however on my previous volunteer fire department we had a Warn 12,000lbs winch in a receiver cradle that sat inside one of the compartments on our big rescue truck. We had receivers on all four sides of the truck so we could winch anything and anywhere in proportion of the truck. Whether it was a car out of somewhere or rolling it over to a more stable position or pulling it away from something and also winching stuff out of the way too. Not necessarily off-road related but definitely a good use for the receiver mounted winch.

Thanks,

Mr. Quinn

Hey Guys, I think on the latest podcast you mentioned using a T3 tent for the winter camping.  I am not quite ready to make the jump to a rooftop but would like a good tent for PacNW camping.  Something quick to setup and will keep me dry. I like the idea of being able to stand up in the tent but at 6'3" I would not be able to in the T3.  The T4 seems just so much bigger when collapsed. I have a 2019 Ranger Crew with a short bed and I think the T4 wouldn't lay flat in the bed. What are your thoughts on the T3 as far as quality use?  Do you "miss" not having a taller roof?

Hello Off-Road Podcast guys.  I have been listening for about 6 months or so and really enjoy the content.   I live in Hillsboro Oregon so being a little PacNW centric is pretty cool. You take on things is a bit different than other off-road podcasts, so I like that.

I have been using the beta version of Gaia GPS for Carplay and I have to tell you, I really like it. It is not as full-featured as the iPhone/iPad app but it works better than anything else on Carplay.

Here is a link to sign up for the beta version. https://help.gaiagps.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003639548-iOS-Beta-Testers

Listener feedback

Happy new year gents. I heard the discussion about Hi-Lift mounts for Jeremy’s Jeep. I have mine on a Dominion Off Road bracket, bolted to the rear roll bar. It tucks nicely behind the roll bar and fits under both hard and soft tops. I also have the extra brackets for my murder-spork and an axe.

Keep the shiny side up!

Off Road Podcast 242 - New Year's Resolutions, how to drop weight

9339386-16x9-large.jpg

Tonight, Jeremy’s a stereotype, Ben converts his 4runner to 2 wheel drive, & Aaron can’t drive up a hill

Welcome to the Off-Road Podcast. Today we will be exploring the off-road world whether you like crawling up rock ledges or enjoy exploring the backroads with your family. Stay with us to learn some off-road news, and topics to interest every guy & girl who craves the outdoors as seen through the windshield. I am your host Ben and I’m here with my co-hosts, Jeremy & Aaron, How’s everyone doing?

Jeremy -  Finished installing Currie antirock.  I went to Tahuya to test it out. Amazing!  Being a stereotype. Dropped the Jeep off for repairs at Northridge 4x4.

Aaron - Had a guy come over and test drive the LMTV.  He does work for the local FD and wants to build a class 3 brush truck.  The rainy season has started and the grass & mud is slicker than snot. Couldn’t get the LMTV to climb a hill it has never had a problem with before.

Ben - Got the last parts to finish fixing the 4runner from the junkyard. Discovered its from a 2wd so I gotta pull the hub or go buy a new one. Did some training for search and rescue. Our unit is going to do river watch to help monitor the rivers so I get to add a few more pieces of gear to my rig.

Off Road Podcast 241 - Lady Owned Toyotas

Tonight, Jeremy loses his never stuck nickname, Aaron hangs out with the NNP guys and Ben? He Lazy.

Welcome to the Off Road Podcast. Today we will be exploring the off road world whether you like crawling up rock ledges or enjoy exploring the backroads with your family. Stay with us to learn some off road news, and topics to interest every guy & girl who craves the outdoors as seen through the windshield. I am your host Ben and I’m here with my co-hosts, Jeremy & Aaron, How’s everyone doing? Did you guys get any good holiday deals?

Jeremy -  Fixed my broken wheel speed sensor.  Found a leaking shaft seal. Installed my Oil, pan, and T-case skid.  Took it out to Tahuya. Found out it hit my drive shaft. The next morning, I adjusted the skid plate, before we went out on a snow run up Copper Creek.  Went over the back side. Narrow trail fun little ditches to drive through. Got stuck on one. Decided it was a good point to turn around. Turned around got stuck in a line of 40 vehicles.  Sold the Roof Top Tent, got a Gazelle. Trying to figure out next Jeep steps. Probably gas tank skid. Hate my sliders. Looking at some Warn sliders or Poison Spyder.

Aaron - Installed and stretched my new winch line. Pulled 5,000lbs of lumber off of the LMTV’s bed with the new line.  Used the LMTV to get a full sized Chevy pulling a dump trailer half full of wood unstuck from my field. Bubba rope FTW! Got to join up with the Nissan Nation Podcast.

Ben - Ben Lazy, Ben no do nothing and finishing fixing the 4runner ordered a tent and got a new tablet finally got more T-nuts to install my new awning on the 4runner and went on a rescue mission and helped a broken down rig back to town.  Also, bought a jet boil and a Gazelle tent.

Listener Mail:

You guys were way off on towing capacity,  the Tesla truck is slightly better towing the new 1/2 tons You guys are very knowledgeable on mid sized rigs but as soon as full size comes to play you guy are way off the facts. The new 1/2 tons are good 12,500+ pounds of towing

Explain what happened

Check out their selection of great patches (join the patch of the month club for 15 dollars a month and receive a patch and matching sticker every month).  October's patch is Count Draco.

Main Topic:

  • Is there any sort of certification that the fuel tanks need to be legal for use in the US?

  • What vehicles do you offer tanks for and how much more capacity can someone expect?

  • Your website says the tanks are direct fit.  What exactly does that mean?

  • Is there any advantage to having an auxiliary tank installed rather a larger main tank?

  • How hard is a tank to install?  Is it something two friends could do over a weekend with basic tools and a 36 pack of beer?

  • I would assume that an auxiliary tank is a bit more complex with the extra wiring needed and more plumbing to do?

  • Will the extra weight of the tank and the extra fuel it holds change the handling of my rig?

  • How long does it take to get a tank for my rig?

  • What would someone expect when taking their rig to a shop to have it installed?

  • How can someone find a dealer who installs your tanks like Wanderlust Overland?

  • How did you get into Off Roading

  • What was your first rig?

  • What's your current rig?

  • Favorite type of wheeling?

  • Besides rolling a Jeep in a graveyard, do you have a most embarrassing moment on the trail?

  • Biggest win on the trail?

Long Range America

  • I would assume that more capacity is the main reason that people would want a bigger fuel tank.  Is there any other reasons that someone might want to swap out their OEM tank for one of yours?

  • How are the tanks built?

  • Are they just a large rectangular tank or is there more sophistication to them than that?

  • All that sounds pretty simple, lots of guys do custom tanks and fuel cells.  What’s the big deal?

  • Your website shows prices that suggest that these will cost up to two thousand dollars with freight.  That’s a big number for a lot of people. How can people justify that expense compared to jerry cans or Roto Packs?

  • I’ve noticed that other aftermarket tanks are plastic different types of metal.  What are yours made from?

  • What is aluminized steel?

  • Since they are metal do offroaders still need a skid plate under it for protection?
