Let's talk about you

How did you get started off-roading?
What was your first rig?
What type of wheeling do you like to do?
Most embarrassing moment on the trail?
Tell us about super jeep!

How did you go about preparing for the show?

did anything change before it started?

What was being on TV like?

What was your most used tool on on the trail

How bad did they play off the drama compared to whatever drama there was.

If you could do it again would you?

Are there any forums or facebook groups you frequent?

You recently had a popular video did your turkey taste a little bit like diff fluid?

What would you suggest to anyone looking to get into wheeling or who just got started?

Roberts question

hey carl i had a listener write in and ask a question maybe you could help answer this its a little beyond my know how Don't hate me but I'm gutting the leaf springs in the front. I did not want to look at the crowded front bumper anymore.

Can I fabricate a curved upper link on a 3 link? I understand it will be heavier and harder to adjust since it will have to stay vertical. I see track bars bent to clear oil pans all the time. I want to fab the upper arm, it will give me 4 inches of more compression. Well worth the time....if it can be done?

Your company

How did jantz engineering come about?
Do you have employees? How many?
Do you specialize in anything
What are some of the kits you sell
What's your company's mission statement and what do they provide for the 4x4 community?Where are you on social media and do you have a website

What's next for super jeep

Off Road Podcast Episode 161 - Trailer Troubles

23905439_1790364724309084_5085273606247199340_n.jpg

Welcome to the Off Road Podcast. I'm your host, Ben. Today we will be exploring the off road world-- whether you like crawling up rock ledges or enjoy exploring the backroads with your family. Stay with us to find out events in your area, off road news, and topics to interest every guy & girl who craves the outdoors as seen through the windshield. I am here with my co-host Aaron and Steve. How’s everyone doing tonight?

Anyone done anything exciting?

  • Aaron - Went snow camping. Blew up my trailer. Bought a gun. Crashed a Segway.

  • Ben - Went on TWIG, hurt my hand, and fubard releasing episodes. Bought a bunch of stuff via Amazon and the rest of the interwebs for some of my holiday shopping.

  • Steve - Got a new phone.  Worked on my trailer more., Went hunting again, the last time for the year except for dogs. Got a new camper shell.

Feedback -

I just listened to episode 159. I wanted to add something that goes hand in hand with a bottle jack. Bring a 12”x12”x3/4” piece of plywood, as a base for the jack. The jack won’t work without it, if you’re in sand, mud, etc. Also works with a hi-lift for the same reason.

Thanks for a great show.  -Joe

Monty wrote: My wife and I were touched and moved by your episode 150A podcast and the kindness you gave our daughter Adelyn, who is the blind girl you refer to at the 1:14:15 mark of your episode. You allowed her to examine your Gambler 500 rig when she requested to, if you don’t recall.

22308962_1508262682574476_800374732762567894_n.jpg

I just happened to be listening to your podcast 150A here late October, since my two boys and I participated in our first Gambler together this last July. We are consumed by everything Gambler now and officially acknowledge we have a “Gambling Problem”. Otherwise I might never have stumbled onto your podcast. Just a fluke I was listening (and it’s great by the way). My wife had told me about your nice gesture that same day at Portland Meadows back in July, but neither of us had a clue Adelyn would wind up in anyone’s podcast. I must have been getting a 10 Barrel beer (I think they were a sponsor... lol) at the moment of car examining. By the way, the beer was not the same price at PDX Meadows as they were at Hoodoo. Free 99 handed out by 10 Barrel at Hoodoo versus $6 at Meadows sold at concession... but the dust had been thick and I was parched.

Anyway, Adelyn loves cars and never passes an opportunity to check them out. She can often tell what kind of car it is by the door handle if she’s “seen” it before. If anybody shows up with one she has not seen before, she wants to examine it in and out. Upholstery, handle type and placement, especially steering controls, etc. She especially wants to ride in it. She wants to drive someday and I tell her I figure by the time she’s old enough, Google might have those self driving cars figured out. But sometimes’ just for now, she sits on Mom’s or older sister’s lap and drives up our 1/4 mile long gravel driveway with a grin on her face...

P.S. Adelyn is 12 years old, 100% blind from birth. We adopted her from China and the other two girls you mentioned that were there with my wife. They are all a treasure, and Adelyn is Gamblin’ material if technology can ever make it happen for her.

ABG!

Off Road Podcast Episode 157 - Back to Basics - How 2 Go 4 Wheelin’

Welcome to the Off Road Podcast. I'm your host, Ben. Today we will be exploring the off road world-- whether you like crawling up rock ledges or enjoy exploring the backroads with your family. Stay with us to find out events in your area, off road news, and topics to interest every guy & girl who craves the outdoors as seen through the windshield. I am here with my co-host Aaron and Joe. How’s everyone doing tonight?

Anyone done anything exciting?

  • Aaron - Didn’t go camping.  Rented a cabin instead. Pre-ordered Spintires: Mudrunner

  • Ben - Got out to greenwater to go shooting and drove up higher and found new spots that have been set up. Finally put the Redline in my Jeep and it did not fix it so it’s time to say goodbye, I put it up for sale.

  • Joe - Loaded up on firewood in the Tracker.  Currently out at hunting camp in the middle of a storm with 50mph winds.

Tyler

Just started listening and love listening during work. Basically what I’m doing is I have a 2000 Ram that I daily right now that’s killer on gas and I picked a 5 speed 4.0 YJ Wrangler for a thousand bucks. Needs suspension and all but want nice suspension on and off-road don’t mind some custom work. Not really looking to axle swap it though just want to make a fun jeep that I can take pretty much anywhere. I want to keep it low, no higher than a 4.5-5 inch lift. I’d like to get a nice aggressive 33 thinking pit bull rocker on 4.5-5 inch lift and maybe some gearing. Trying to do somewhat of a budget but don’t mind spending money on important parts and gearing. My main goal is something I can daily, take the Jersey pines on the weekend and once a month to Rausch creek offroad park in PA.

Ben’s suggestions

Rough Country - 4.5 will clear 33x12.5 15 inch rims.

  • Tires I’d go with cooper stt pros they are a popular tire here that a lot of guys are running.

  • SYE Kit. My dad runs a Rustys and it’s nice also comes with Tom Woods driveshaft.

  • Aussie rear locker.

  • Bumper with winch.

  • If you go for gears I’d look at 4:10s.

Michael H - Hey Ben, was just listening to episode 150 I vote suburban and congrats on deciding to get out of the Jeep. Suburbans can wheel just fine and go anywhere a Jeep can. I talked to Michael for a little bit he’s written in before and now has put 37s on his suburban and pulled 5 rigs out at the dunes the last time he was there.

listener and Navy Chief currently deployed on a guided missile Submarine somewhere on the other side of the planet, but home ported out of the Pacific Northwest writes: I’ll be returning home in late autumn to the Puget Sound area, a bunch of us want to go camping after we get back but due to our op-tempo don’t really know the secrets of the area very well.  What are some great places off of the beaten path to go that involves some mild off-roading (Jeeps and trucks, no Subarus) and hiking?  Specifically we’re looking for stuff within a 150 mile radius of our base, so the Olympics, Cascades, and Mt Rainier areas.

Naches Trail, Surprise Lake, Several ORV parks, Lots of FS roads in the olympics and Cascades.  Most people won’t give up their secret spots.  I(Aaron) would love to lead a run for a bunch of Veterans out into the woods.  Book called Rays Guide: Free camping in Washington State has gotten me into many fun out of the way areas.

Tech tip:

Flush your A/C system when you replace your compressor. Most if not all parts house sell flush just for the A/C lines.  If your compressor goes bad, it’s really important to flush all the tidbits and metal parts out of the system before you put your new compressor on.  Also, make sure to fill the new compressor with the right oil. If you can, hold the system under vacuum for a few minutes to insure no leaks and it boils the moisture out of the system.

Feedback

From Bryan B. Via Facebook guys. Listening to the podcast right now. I just wanted to give my 2 cents on the eagle build. The 258 isn't a v6. It's the straight six that was in the jeeps. He could do a 4.0 head conversion and fuel inject it. Claims are about a 70hp increase and much better drive ability. I think it may have the amc 20 rear axle as well. Which has plenty of support in the aftermarket and should be strong enough with just a shaft upgrade.
