Review of maxordinate.com Scope Theory Class
By Kenny Ortega
On July 7th, I attended the scope theory class hosted by Marine Scout Sniper Tyler Hughes at Gunfighter Tactical in San Diego, Ca. At first glance, most people would think there isn't much to learn about scopes and how they work. Let me say that the large majority of those people are wrong. Tyler used to work for US Optics and still considers them good scopes, though he did say they appear to be lagging behind the other major manufacturers in cutting edge features. The 3 hour class just flew by and didn't feel anything even close to 3 hours long.
After going over different scope types and features, Tyler got into the meat of the class, the math needed to calculate DOPE and making proper adjustments. As someone that is comfortable with using his scopes, I learned a lot from this part of the class. There are a ton of small tips from an experienced teacher that will prove very helpful in the future. Tyler easily handled all questions presented to him and had no trouble with the math involved in calculating and converting Minutes of Angle and Mils, proving that he was not just regurgitating theory. He knows the material well and is able to apply it easily. Tyler’s school, Maxordinate Academy in Apple Valley, California, hosts regular classes in rifle and pistol disciplines as well as open range days. With targets out to 1000 yards and beyond, I am looking forward to continue learning more from this group.
If you have an opportunity to learn from Tyler, I recommend that you do so. You won't be disappointed.
