Jason haynie shared this story <link to story> I'm sure it wasn't a listener, at least I hope not, but maybe spreading the word will help catch them and educate against acts like this.

Listener feedback

Hello, my name is Eric. I am a 2016 Toyota Tacoma owner. I have the 4x4 Off Road version of this vehicle and I have studied the first, second, and third generation Tacomas.

Being a third gen owner, I noticed that it was stated that second generation, 2004 to 2015, Tacoma came with ATS and then Crawl Control a few years later. All TRD Off Road models came with ATRAC which is active traction control which controls individual brake calipers to keep all wheels spinning at the same speed. The Off Road also has an electric locking differential in the rear. There is NO Crawl Control in any second generation Tacoma. Prior to 2012, you could get a six lug vehicle with a mechanical LSD but it was rare.

The biggest difference as an option to the second generation is the 4.0 liter V6. This is a tested and proven engine over the life of the generation. I was, and always am, disappointed that it was not mentioned that a TRD Sport exists and is very popular. This TRD package is cosmetic and more of an on-road package. Many people group the Sport and Off Road and call them TRDs when they are completely different packages.

The third generation Tacoma, 2016 to present, has Crawl Control, which many owners consider a gimmick. Based in the same control group as Crawl Control, though, is MTS, Multi Terrain Select. MTS is the old ATRAC with 5 settings. This is very useful when driving off road on different surfaces.

Crawl Control was/is also offered on current generations of Land Cruisers. This is where Crawl Control started before it was put into the Tacoma.

It was later mentioned that the 4runner has Crawl Control, as well. This is incorrect as the current 4Runner PRO has 1-setting ATRAC.

When speaking of the first generation, it was stated that a prerunner or TRD model was made with 'taller shocks'. There was not always a Prerunner model made but when it was, it came with 6 lug, 16 inch wheels. All 4 wheel drive models also came with the 6 lug wheels.

I could go on talking about Tacomas for days. I was bummed that the Tacoma section was so short and so inaccurate.

Thanks Eric

None of us at the time of the recording of the episode were very knowledgeable about Toyotas.  Now that we have Cameron on board he will be able to help pick out errors as he has some good history with them.  We can only rely on what our guests to tell us correct info.  We do try to do some research before the show does live to catch mistakes.

Thanks for writing in and calling us out on our mistakes.  We appreciate that people care enough to point them out and our listeners deserve to know the correct information.
