Listener Jay:

Subject: Tequila

Message: Hi guys - First, love the show, it gets better every episode. Second, I just wanted to add my two cents on the tequila topic. Don't overlook Kirkland's (Costco) Silver Tequila. At $19.99 for 1.75l it is a great buy, as is their small batch bourbon (I believe made by Buffalo Trace now...originally from Jim Beam but their contract ran out). Anyway, worth a 'shot' and love to hear your thoughts. Keep up the good work.

Favorite handgun if I could only have one: 4" S&W 686 (it will eat everything...plus I live in the un-Constitutional state of Connecticut)

Current EDC: S&W Shield 9mm

Subject: Hello

Message: Dear Ryan & Weer’d,

I just want to thank you both very much for Handgun Radio. The show’s easy conversation and gun-nerd topics make for real listening enjoyment. I also enjoy the deep dive discussions with Daniel Watters and other guests, as well as the drink segment. I currently live in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua and greatly appreciate the quality gun nerd time.

While Mexico has some great gun control, a citizen can in fact purchase a firearm for home protection. They have one gun store in the country, on a military base in CDMX. It’s not really that bad, though, they can ship your gun to the nearest military base. I have the pdf catalog offering from the Mexican military if you want to check it out.

My contribution to show ideas:

Lubrication 101 with Grant Cunningham

.38 Super

Loadout Shows: Loadout for your ride with Ranger Hamer!

The old meme where you are sent back in time to the east coast of pre-Lewis & Clark North America and have to pick one rifle / pistol / loadout for a trip to the west coast.

Listener Spencer:

Hey guys,

I just wanted to follow up on this (ancient) email since I was biting my

tongue the whole time Weerd was going on about carrying moon clips for the

9mm LCR.

As mentioned below, you only need moon clips to extract, and if you use

nickel plated ammo even that isn’t a requirement. The 9mm LCR spaces off the

case mouth, just like a pistol does. If you look down the cylinder you can

see the small ridge it uses in every bore.

Since I wrote this email I've carried it almost every day, since it's what I

drop in my pants when I go to the mailbox or just out for a walk. I keep the

gun loaded with a moon clip, but my reloads are all speed strips. I use the

32 ACP speed-strips, since the smaller diameter holes keep the rimless 9mm

held in tightly.

When I shoot this gun at the range I always start with shooting through the

moon clip, and the 2 speed-strips just to keep in practice, and I've never

had any issues with ejection of the loose rounds. You just tilt the gun back

a bit and rap the butt on your palm and they fall right out. You probably

should keep the gun cleaned to make this easier, but as I mentioned if the

cases are nickel-plated, I'd be surprised if you have any issues.

Also, in reference to the speed loader episode a while back, I do have some

of the S.L. Variant speed loaders that I got from the only US importer I'm

aware of, Bobby Mac's (link below). However they have had the same web page

up promising new stock 'any day now' for years now. I did email him a few

years back and he said there was no waiting list or anything, but couldn’t

say if he was ever getting more in.

It's a real shame you can’t get these in the US anymore, since they are

easily the best speed loaders I've every tried. If you want to try a couple

of them out I would be happy to loan you some for review, so long as they

make it back to me at some point.

Thanks for the podcast,

Spencer
