Week in Review:

Ryan: Didn’t do to much firearms related, got to shoot my grandfathers .22 LR rifle a bit. Using the CCI Quiet ammo you have to hold over a little bit at 50 yards but it is basically hearing safe in my experience.

Weerd: NRA show!   So excited to get out of town and hang out at the Gun Blog Variety House, get some interviews for all my shows, and hopefully meet some fans!

Drink Segment: Since I’m flying to Georgia I can’t bring my travel bar,  what Will I do to keep my masses entertained when we return to the house at the end of the night.

My plan is to pack my cobbler shaker (it’s all metal so it won’t break) and I can put a few small bottles of bitters into it, as well as some garnish picks.

I’m asking my housemates who are driving to do their best to supply glassware,  and Sean and I are planning on cooking dinner for the troops in the evening, so we’ll be hitting the grocery store, as well as the liquor store for supplies.

I’m excited to see what I can cook up under those limitations.

Main Topic: Pre-NRA Annual Meeting Preparation!

What guns do you want to see?

What guns are you ambivalent about?

What are your travel plans and how hard were they to get set up?

Are you concerned about the traffic nightmare that is Atlanta?

What has been your favorite thing about past NRA shows and what has been your least favorite thing?

Ryan: -Unplanned range trip yesterday! Got to take out my Steyr, Sig P226, Model 60, 19, as well as a few others. My neighbor critter brought his S&W Model 34 .22 LR, his Star Model B 9mm and one that I hadn’t ever shot, a Cimmaron replica of the 1860 Mason-Richards Army conversion. It was in .38 Special and shot great! Very accurate and a great trigger, and you don’t need to fuss with loose powder and ball! Video coming soon.

-There was a home invasion in my area recently. There was an article in the paper where the son of the elderly woman whose home was invaded came to the home after she called him. He was armed with his Ruger LCP and was ambushed as he entered the home by the intruder who hit him with what is believed to be a hammer. The son ended up shooting the man in the chest with the LCP but then got in a struggle with him over the gun until the son finally got the upper hand and the police arrived. Lots of lessons here Link to Video and Article

Main Topic: Custom Pistolsmithing with KGB Customs

I have become familiar with Karls work through the Custom Handguns group on facebook. The Custom Handguns group is the premier group to be in if you like seeing the art that some of these pistolsmiths perform. Karl has done everything from 1911’s to CZ’s and everything in between. I especially like the work he does on 1911’s and Hi-Powers.

Karl, how did you get started pistolsmithing and when did you start KGB Customs?

What are the main guns that come through your shop?

What are some of the most common modifications you perform?

What has been the most challenging firearm you’ve ever worked on and what is the most challenging modification to perform?

What are some modifications that you would advise people to avoid?

You posted recently a picture of a Colt Combat Commander in .38 Super that had been worked over by Novak. What was the story behind that? (P.S. I want to get a gun EXACTLY like that one, it looks amazing.)

What does the future look like for KGB Customs? Do you have any exciting projects coming up?

What is the best way for people to contact you and inquire about having work done?

“Hi Guys, love the show. I’ve been looking for an inexpensive defensive pistol, and I have thought about using a surplus or C&R type pistol since they seem to be somewhat inexpensive and sometimes do shoot substantial calibers. What are your thoughts on this?”

Handgun Radio 132 - A Discussion with RPS Tactical Holsters & Gear

Hello and welcome to Handgun Radio! I’m your host Ryan Michad from the wild woods of Central Maine, and this is your home for all the news, information and discussion in the handgunning world.

This week, we catch up with Weerd Beard post-NRA Show 2016, and then for the main topic I spent some time with the guys from RPS Tactical in Fairfield, ME to discuss their business & products!

Please check out the Patriot Patch Company for their awesome patches and other high quality items! Visit www.patriotpatch.co for more information!

Week in Review:

Ryan: -

-  Shot the Smith & Wesson Model 60 that was customized by Bayside Custom Gunworks! It is awesome! I’ve put 100 rounds through it so far and it has been 100% reliable. The trigger is much improved, the drawing of the gun is much improved due to the smooth, snag free hammer and the new grips help to keep the gun stable. I put a dab of paint on the sight to help make it stand out, will have to see how it holds up.

- Erik C is getting ready to send his new S&W Revolver off to Bayside Custom Gunworks! Apparently someone did a bubba trigger job on it and it has push-off. The exterior is also pretty worn.

-There’s been a couple interesting & cool “ASP” conversions of Glocks posted by TJ in the Handgun Radio Discussion Group! Be sure to like the page on Facebook!

-Daniel posted a cool Beretta Conversion on the Discussion Group. It reminds me of the Beretta M9A3

Weerd: The wife and baby are out of town this week, so I actually have a day to myself,  so I’m going to hit the range!    Probably mostly going to be handguns.

https://youtu.be/-bVdZjYcF0A Corpse Reviver #2:  Equal Parts of Gin, Lemon Juice, and Lillet Blanc,  plus a dash of Absinthe,  or in my case Pernod.

Interesting as this drink was coined as a “Morning Drink”,  I have no idea why!

With that, we will head into the main topic, a discussion with RPS Tactical!

HGR 075 - 2014 Christmas Gift Guide & Recent Gun Introductions

HGR 075 - Top 10 Christmas Gifts & Recent Gun Introductions Hello and welcome to Handgun Radio! I’m your host Ryan Michad from the wilds of Central Maine, and this is your home for all the news, information and discussion in the handgunning world.

This week, I’m joined by Weerd Beard to discuss our top picks for Christmas gifts and some of the new guns that have been recently introduced!

Brought to you by the Firearms Radio Network

Week in Review:

Ryan- Got a beautiful CM9 Holster in from Werkz! I’ll be talking about that next week more so stay tuned!

Hope all the listeners have a fantastic holiday and enjoy time with their families!

Weerd-

Main Topic: Top 10 Christmas Gifts & Recent Gun Introductions

Christmas Gifts:

Weer’d:

  • Pmags:   Everybody has an AR these days,  and Magpul PMags are inexpensive, durable, and reliable.   Also remember that if their AR is in .300 BLK these 5.56 mag will work for that gun too.
  • M-Pro7 Cleaner: This is my favorite cleaner, it works great.  It doesn’t have an odor, and I clean with bare hands and I find it doesn’t hurt my skin.  Also since it’s water-based it’s awesome for cleaning guns that may have fired corrosive ammo!
  • Lee 50th Anniversary Reloading kit:  Nothing fancy, but it comes with almost everything you need to take those first steps into cartridge reloading.  This is how I learned to reload, and all I needed to buy extra was a bullet puller and a micrometer.
  • Wilson 47D magazines: For a 1911 shooter these are the best magazines on the planet!   I have piles of them at home, and if a few more showed up in my stocking I’d LOVE it.
  • Recoil Springs: I picked a Wolff kit for the 1911 that includes the recoil spring and firing pin spring.   The firing pin spring doesn’t wear as fast as the recoil spring, but with the kit it doesn’t cost much extra, so why not.   Of course you can buy springs for any gun your shooter might have, but if you shoot high volume this is the part you’ll need to replace most often besides the magazines.

Ryan:

Werkz Holsters: For a great kydex holster you can’t beat them. Werkz is a family owned small business and Shan, the owner is a great guy! If you need a really great piece of Kydex gear he can certainly help you out either with something in their standard line or custom work.

Desantis Nemesis Pocket Holster: Great, lightweight and durable pocket holster

LaserLyte Training Target & Cartridge Insert: Awesome training aid that shows your shots on a target

Extra Magazines: Everyone needs extra magazines for their choice gun!!

Pearce Grip Extensions: Help make your handgun a lot more shootable and get a better grip on a small handgun without compromising concealability.

New Gun Introductions:

Ruger LC9s Pro -

Ruger LCR 3”-

Jericho 941 Pistol -

Heizer Defense Pocket AK & Pocket Sniper (.308) -

Republic Forge 1911 -

Kahr Premium Gen2-
