Week in Review:
Weerd: PLAGUE Was sick all week, and the wife was sicker. But today is the first day in about a week I felt pretty good so things are looking up
Drink Segment: Black pepper martini
Standard dry martini, but with Black pepper infused vodka
I use 3 olive vodka and I put about a tablespoon of black peppercorns into mason jars filled with 1.75L of Vodka. Takes about 3 days, then you strain the peppercorns out and you have a tasty vodka.
Main Topic: Listener Email & other Stuff!
First time lone time.
Are you guys planning on going to the NRA show In Dallas? I haven’t been to a NRA show before, and I am somewhat local (Houston).
Handgun Radio and This Week in Guns are my favorite programs on the network. I a revolver fan, a Steyr fan and an eastern bloc pistol fan.
I have shot my Yugo M57 and CZ82 in IDPA matches. Ive also shot my Steyr S40, S9 and L9-A1 in matches.
My M57 from classic firearms has only a Glock style trigger safety. It ran like a beast during the match with no issues and good accuracy. The tiny sights did slow me down a little.
My Steyr S9 has a chopped down G26 size grip and magazines using a S40 basepad. Steyr should make that 13-15 round magazine that it needs. It carries very nicely with the cut down grip. I'll send a photo if you have an email address I can send it to.
Will any of you guys be at the NRA annual meeting in Dallas?
I’ve been listening for a few years now and I haven’t seen you guys do too much on 1911’s. With all the variations of 1911’s out there now a days I thought maybe a discussion about specific features like: ambi safety versus non, commander, full size, gi guide rod vs full length, scandium or aluminum frame vs steel, even the bull barreled 1911’s with no bushing. I recently bought a Range Officer elite champion in .45 and the breakdown is very odd in comparison. Just a thought for the show. Hope you guys had a great Easter!
Listener Chris, RE: the Ruger 9mm LCR:
Hey guys, listening to episode #191 you read listener feedback about the Ruger LCR 9mm. I had one of these and it was a very fun gun to shoot. Moonclips were awesome and made reloads super quick. If you notice though I’m speaking in past tense because I sold my LCR 9mm. What I found was that range and target ammo was awesome, but my preferred 9mm carry ammo is 147gr Speer Gold Dot G2...I just like heavy for caliber bullets. What I found when shooting the LCR 9mm one handed (either strong or weak hand) was that with the slightest “limp wristing” the 147gr bullet would start to walk out. This is because generally pistol cartridges don’t have the crimping that typical revolver cartridges have. By the third shot the bullets had walked out enough to lock the cylinder up and prevent further cycling. With a good two hand hold, or deliberately strong holding the gun with one hand this problem didn’t happen. Also with lighter 115gr ammo this never happened. But because I wanted it as a carry pistol, and in the heat of the moment you’re not always guaranteed a good two hand hold, and I want to carry heavy for caliber bullets, I decided to move to other options for a small 9mm. I was saddened by this as I am a revolver lover and really wanted the LCR 9mm to work for me. I just wanted to share my experience with you guys and the listeners. If you want to stick with lighter 115gr ammo I’m sure there’s nothing to worry about, but be aware this can happen with the heavier 147gr bullets.
