Main Topic: How to build your first AR-15
Topic came from question from my brother in-law:
James: Looking to build an ar-15 here soon and i need a list of tools i should buy to make it easier. also if you could recommend some good websites to buy off of i would appreciate it. my budget is around 800 but preferably less if possible.
Let’s go over how a listener can build his/her first AR-15 in .223/5.56 as a basic 16” flat top carbine for the purpose of the range, home defense, and maybe beginning competition. Under $800. Ready, Set, Go!
How can you legally build a gun?
Some state restrictions like CA:
Calguns - Rifle flowchart
Skills needed? NONE
Places to buy parts:
Bare essential parts needed:
- Stripped lower (wait till they run a $50 special and buy multiples)
- AR-15 rifle build kit (if the kit you want isn’t in stock use the complete upper section and buy a lower build kit)
Parts we like to add: (these can go over the $800 price limit)
- upgraded stocks and rail/handguards, OPTICS, good magazines, sling, flashlight, tons of ammo

Jeff writes: I was shooting my ruger p95 (9mm). with wolf ammo i think it was 124 grain. but anyways i pulled the trigger and it didn't fire i ejected the round it had a normal primer strike on it. reloaded it into the gun and this time it fired. this happened on two other occasions. is this the gun or ammo? Ive had the gun for 7 months probably 900 rounds through it with no other problems. do you guys have any ideas?
Zacks answer: If this is the only ammo it does it with then its the ammo.. it sometimes happens with cheap ammo.

Feedback: Eddie J: Love the podcast, my daughters shoot 22 rim fire and I shoot glock so your show really has us covered and I like the no politics format, please keep it up. I look forward to your show.
DJ: Great Podcast, in just a short time you guys have moved into my top three podcasts. I am considering purchasing an AR or AK, looking at the S&W MP15 due to the cost. Where do you guys weigh in on the AR (5.56 or 223)for home defense? Again great job.
Zack: AR’s are the new shotgun, much easier to shoot and much more capacity, AK might have too much recoil for women shooters. AK has an evil look which may be bad in court?
