Comedy Corner:

Cleaning the Attic

While cleaning the attic, Joan and Harry found an old stub for some shoes they left at the repair shop 10 years ago. They thought it would be funny to go to the shop and see if the shoes were still there. So they did. They handed the stub to the repair man who took it and looked in the back. He came out again and said, "They'll be ready on Wednesday."

To Be Six Again

George was a thoughtful husband. He wanted to give his wife something special for her birthday which was coming up soon. As he sat on the edge of the bed, he watched his wife turning back and forth and looking at herself in the mirror. "Reta," he said, "What would you like for your birthday?"

His wife continued to look at herself and said, "I'd like to be six again."

George knew just what to do. On the big day, he got up early and made his wife a bowl of Fruit Loops. Then he took her to an amusement park where they rode all the rides. Five hours later, Reta's stomach felt upside down and her head was reeling. Never the less, George took her to McDonald's and bought her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a chocolate shake. Next, it was a movie with popcorn, soda and her favorite candy.

As Reta wobbled into the house that evening and flopped on the bed, George asked her, "Well, Dear, what was it like to be six again?"

Reta looked up at him. Her expression changed. She said, "I meant my dress size!"

Weekly Bible Verses

And the Lord sent Nathan to David. He came to him and said to him, “There were two men in a certain city, the one rich and the other poor. The rich man had very many flocks and herds, but the poor man had nothing but one little ewe lamb, which he had bought. And he brought it up, and it grew up with him and with his children. It used to eat of his morsel and drink from his cup and lie in his arms, and it was like a daughter to him.  Now there came a traveler to the rich man, and he was unwilling to take one of his own flock or herd to prepare for the guest who had come to him, but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.” Then David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the Lord  lives, the man who has done this deserves to die,  and he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.” Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the  Lord, the God of Israel, ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul. And I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your arms and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah. And if this were too little, I would add to you as much more.  Why have you despised the word of the  Lord , to do what is evil in his sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and have taken his wife to be your wife and have killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.  Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’  Thus says the  Lord , ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house. And I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.  For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel and before the sun.’”  David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the  Lord .” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die.  Nevertheless, because by this deed you have utterly scorned the Lord, the child who is born to you shall die.” 2 Samuel 12:1-14 (ESV)

True Believer with Mike Emert

Philippians 3:20 20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ

2 Peter 1:1-2 1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: 2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. 2 Peter 1:11 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 3:18 17 Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

Jude 1:25 25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

Romans 10:9 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

1 John 3:4-24 4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. 7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. 10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.

More on Love and Hatred

11 For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. 12 Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous. 13 Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters,[a] if the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death. 15 Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him. 16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 19 This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence:20 If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24 The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

After several emails…

Troy,

Thanks for taking the time to put that together.  I know it took some time out of your already busy evening.

Things make a lot more sense now.  The controversy I see is some people's definition of "Lordship."  I think some people are using the idea of Lordship as reaching or attaining to a certain level of sanctification.  That is the part I disagree with.  I do believe that after salvation people can go through some very hard times, spiritually, and rebel against God.

I'm glad you made the distinction between people who ARE saved and people who "think" they are saved, and that it is God's job to decide when a person actually receives salvation.  I believe that a person can accept Christ at a young age but go through a rough patch and have a longer rebellious period than others but this does not diminish Jesus' Lordship during that time.  Because Lordship is not conditional on any certain level of sanctification.  If it were, that's when Christianity becomes "works" based.

The parts of this email I've underlined are what I previously thought you were believing, but I understand now that you were sending the message that there are people who "think" they are saved and just living "good lives."

Another verse that sticks out in my mind is 1 Corinthians 5:5 regarding believers in the church who continue to sin even after confronted about it:  "You are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord."

There is a difference between that kind of living and the example you gave of David.  When confronted about his most notable sin, sexual immorality, David repented.  Lordship was in place but his flesh still emerged.

1 Corinthians 6:11 (regarding a list of immoral actions) says this: "And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."

Clerk chases off armed robber, WJCL, Savannah, Ga. 08/25/14

Clerk Rick Patel was working at a Shell Food Mart in Claxton, Ga. when a hooded man approached the counter and attempted to rob the store at gunpoint. Patel responded by retrieving a pistol, which then he used to chase the criminal out of the store. Police suspect the hooded man has committed several other armed robberies. Following the incident, Patel told Savannah’s WJCL, “I don’t like to shoot nobody but when it comes to my life I would. And thank God I didn’t get hurt, I didn’t kill him, otherwise I would have regretted but hey, you made the choice, regrets happen.” In recent years, some convenience store clerks have faced discipline following an act of armed self-defense. In a welcome departure from these instances, the owner of Patel’s store told the TV station, “I’m really proud. Whatever he did I’d like if everybody started doing it that way, robbery will be stopped, especially for convenience stores.”

Comedy Corner: Name the Capitals

A blonde was complaining to her friend about constantly being called a dumb blonde. Her friend tells her "go do something to prove them wrong! Why don't you learn all the state capitals or something?" The blonde thinks this is a great idea, and locks herself up for two weeks studying.

The next party she goes to, some guy is making dumb blonde comments to her. She gets all indignant and claims, "I'm NOT a dumb blonde. In fact, I can name ALL the state capitals!"

The guy doesn't believe her, so she dares him to test her. He says "Okay, what's the Capital of Montana?"

The blonde tosses her hair in triumph and says, "That's easy! It's M!"

Can I see President Clinton

A man walks up to the Marine guard at the White House front gate and asked to see President Clinton. The guard says "Sorry sir but Clinton is no longer president."

The man comes back the next day and again approaches the same guard and asks to see President Clinton. Again the guard says "Sir, Clinton is no longer president." The man leaves but comes back the third day and again asked to see President Clinton.

The guard says "Sir...you have been here three days in a row asking to see President Clinton...and I have told you each time that Clinton is no longer president...what gives?"

The man says "I know... I just like hearing it."

Weekly Bible Verses & Main Topic

6th Commandment - Do not Murder* The sixth commandment helps us to understand... 1. What murder is (Deut. 5:17). You shall not murder (Deut. 5:17). Are There Exceptions? Self Defense (Neh. 4:11-14). Exodus 22:2-3 reads, “If a thief is found breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no bloodguilt for him, but if the sun has risen on him, there shall be bloodguilt for him.” So even after the Commands are given in Exodus 20, we can see that God permits the taking of a life if one’s own life is in potential danger. Capital Punishment Genesis 9:6 not only shows that we are to value human life because of creation; it also points out that if a man kills another man, his life was also to be taken. Even before the law was given to Israel—before the Commandment not to murder—God established capital punishment. This punishment speaks to the severity of the crime. The taking of a life warrants a punishment in kind—a death for a death. Just War In Scripture, God at times commanded battles between nations. Such battles and wars were God’s hand of justice against the wicked. Examples of God sanctioning war can be found throughout the historical books of the Old Testament. Although men and women are killed in battle, there must be a difference between the act of murder and a death in battle. Jesus Himself said, “My kingdom is not of this world… If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world” (John 18:36). 2. What drives it (Matt. 5:21-22). You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire (Matt. 5:21-22). Words Can Kill - Bullying

Murder Affects Us All - Abortion, Infanticide, Democide, genocide, euthanasia.

3. The cure for it (1 John 3:10-15). By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother. For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. We should not be like Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother’s righteous. Do not be surprised, brothers, that the world hates you. We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him (1 John 3:10-15).

Conclusion "The Sixth Commandment forbids murder, yet as Jesus showed, the intent of the Commandment addresses the words that we say and ultimately the heart behind these actions. Murder—and the heart of anger behind it—denies the inherent value of human life and strikes out against the image of God in humanity. For this reason, God takes murder very seriously. In fact, unrepentant murderers will not inherit the kingdom of God (Rev. 21:8). But the work of Jesus on the cross can cleanse even this sin and change the attitude of the heart. Our world is full of people who do not know that they were made in the image of God and are valuable to Him. Nor do they fully recognize the eternal consequences of the anger in their hearts or the actions that overflow from their hearts. Their hatred even extends to God Himself. Yet as Jesus loved us enough to die for us while we were still His enemies, we ought to love these people in the name of Jesus that they too may be freed from hatred to love God and others. A life that is pleasing to God is one that has moral purity not only in its actions, but also in its desires of heart.9 —Wayne Grudem Every destructive emotion bears its own harvest, but anger’s fruit is the most bitter of all.10 —Billy Graham

Clerk halts robber armed with rifle, WFSB, Connecticut, 08/06/14

A man armed with a rifle entered Congress Mini Mart in New Haven, Conn. and attempted to rob the store. At some point the thief left, then traveled to the nearby Nino’s Market convenience store and attempted to rob it. The clerk at Nino’s responded to the threat by retrieving a gun and shooting the criminal in the chest, killing him. Police have confirmed that the clerk was in compliance with Connecticut’s gun laws. Bizarrely, the clerks at Congress Mini Mart and Nini’s Market are brothers.

Comedy Corner:

Blond Painter Julie, the blonde, was getting pretty desperate for money. She decided to go to the nicer, richer neighborhoods around town and look for odd jobs as a handy woman. The first house she came to, a man answered the door and told Julie,"Yeah, I have a job for you. How would you like to paint the porch?" "Sure that sounds great!" said Julie. "Well, how much do you want me to pay you?" asked the man. "Is fifty bucks all right?" Julie asked. "Yeah, great. You'll find the paint and ladders you'll need in the garage." The man went back into his house to his wife who had been listening. "Fifty bucks! Does she know the porch goes all the way around the house?" asked the wife. "Well, she must, she was standing right on it!" her husband replied. About 45 minutes later, Julie knocked on the door."I'm all finished," she told the surprised homeowner. The man was amazed. "You painted the whole porch?" "Yeah," Julie replied, "I even had some paint left, so I put on two coats!" The man reached into his wallet to pay Julie. "Oh, and by the way," said Julie, "That's not a Porch, it's a Ferrari."

For the Sick A little girl was in church with her mother when she started feeling ill. "Mommy," she said, "can we leave now?" "No" her mother replied. "Well, I think I'm gonna be sick, Momma!" "Then go out the front door and around to the back of the church and then behind a bush." After about 60 seconds the little girl returned to her seat. "Were you sick?" her mom asked. "Yes." "How could you have gone all the way to the back of the church and returned so quickly?" "I didn't have to go out of the church, Mommy. They have a box next to the front door that says, 'For the Sick'."

Weekly Bible Verses

Isaiah 53:1-12 Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the  Lord  been revealed? For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.     Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way;  and the  Lord  has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,  yet he opened not his mouth;  like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? And they made his grave with the wicked  and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. Yet it was the will of the  Lord  to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant,  make many to be accounted righteous,  and he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many,  and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.

82-year-old Charles Robbins was asleep at home in Daytona Beach Florida, when a burglar wearing a mask and carrying a hammer and screw driver attempted to break in through the front door. After awakening to the criminal’s attempts to break the front door lock with the screwdriver, Robbins retrieved a handgun, shot the criminal through the door and then called 911. The wounded burglar tried to flee, but barely made it off Robbins’ porch before collapsing dead. Local law enforcement has been supportive of Robbins’ actions, with Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood stating, “The homeowner did something the criminal justice system couldn’t do with this guy… We’re familiar with the burglar. He put him out of business.” Robbins was clear that he would take the same actions again, noting, “Better nobody try to break into my house or they’ll get the same thing he did.”

Comedy Corner:

Last Sunday, the pastor of a local church began his sermon with a supposedly true story...

"I was on a plane last week, flying from Chicago to California, when we ran into some very severe turbulence. As it got worse, the passengers became more and more alarmed, and finally even the flight attendants began to look concerned. Finally, one of them noticed that I had "REV." in front of my name on the passenger list came over to me and said, "Sir, this is really frightening. Do you suppose you could ... I don't know ... do something religious?"

"So I took up a collection."

A minister told his congregation, "Next week I plan to preach about the sin of lying. To help you understand my sermon, I want you all to read Mark 17."

The following Sunday, as he prepared to deliver his sermon, the minister asked for a show of hands. He wanted to know how many had read Mark 17. Every hand went up. The minister smiled and said,

"Mark has only sixteen chapters. I will now proceed with my sermon on the sin of lying."

Subject: What Bible are you packing?

Message Body:

Hey guys, I have a suggestion for a show topic. Christians are a lot like discerning gun owners, in the they are very particular about their Bibles. And like gun owners, Christians will almost always have more than one in their possession, for a multitude of purposes or reasons. Maybe there is the family heirloom Bible on the shelf, the highlighted and marked-up Bible in the night stand, a free Bible handed out by a local church or organization, the Bible app on their phone, etc. I personally have three paper copies: my large study Bible that my wife gave me on our wedding day (I'm convinced that it could serve as physical armor as much as spiritual armor), a leather thin-line Bible to take to work and church (EDC), and a compact BoB (Bug-out Bible) that I keep with my emergency supplies. How many Bibles do you own? And like what you put in your firearms, Christians get very opinionated about what is in their Bibles. What's in yours? KJV? NIV? ESV? Of course, most will agree that, like firearms, (almost) any version of the Bible is better than not having one at all.

I'll save my testimony for another time but I thought that would be good enough to start. Keep up the good work and I look forward to listening every week!

God bless,

Sergio

Gospel Message

Jeremiah 29:13 (ESV)

13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

“A” is Admit. You must admit to God that you are a sinner. You must be sorry for your sins and turn away from sinning.  Verses that support this step are:

  • Romans 3:23
    • for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
  • Romans 6:23
    • For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
  • Acts 3:19
    • Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,
  • 1 John 1:9
    • If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

“B” is for Believe.  You must believe that Jesus is God’s Son and that God sent Jesus to pay       the penalty for sin. Verses about believing include:

  • John 3:16
    • For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
  • John 14:6
    • Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
  • Romans 5:8
    • But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

“C” is for Confess. You must confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Read the        following verse:

  • Romans 10:9-10,13
    • 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved…. 13for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

After you admit to God that you are a sinner, repent and turn from your sin, believe that Jesus is God’s Son sent to die to pay for the sins of the world, and confess your faith in Jesus, you are a Christian and know Jesus as your Savior.

Independence Day

  3. Significance

"The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever." ~ John Adams --Adams wrote this in a letter to his wife, Abigail, on July 3, 1776.

"While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian." ~ George Washington --The Writings of Washington, pp. 342-343.

"Suppose a nation in some distant Region should take the Bible for their only law Book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited! Every member would be obliged in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice, kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love, and reverence toward Almighty God ... What a Eutopia, what a Paradise would this region be." ~ John Adams --Diary and Autobiography of John Adams, Vol. III, p. 9.

"Resistance to tyranny becomes the Christian and social duty of each individual. ... Continue steadfast and, with a proper sense of your dependence on God, nobly defend those rights which heaven gave, and no man ought to take from us." ~John Hancock (1st Signer of the Declaration of Independence) --History of the United States of America, Vol. II, p. 229.

"The hope of a Christian is inseparable from his faith. Whoever believes in the divine inspiration of the Holy Scriptures must hope that the religion of Jesus shall prevail throughout the earth. Never since the foundation of the world have the prospects of mankind been more encouraging to that hope than they appear to be at the present time. And may the associated distribution of the Bible proceed and prosper till the Lord shall have made 'bare His holy arm in the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God' (Isaiah 52:10)." ~ John Quincy Adams (6th U.S. President) --Life of John Quincy Adams, p. 248.

Comedy Corner:

Tough Call

Four friends went deer hunting and paired off in twos for the day. That night, one of the hunters returned alone, staggering under the weight of an ten-point buck.

"Where's Billy Bob?"

"Billy Bob had a stroke of some kind. He's a couple of miles back up the trail."

"You left Billy Bob laying out there and carried the deer back?"

"A tough call," nodded the hunter "but I figured no one, in their right mind, is going to steal Billy Bob."

A fella was tending to his cattle one morning when out of a cedar grove another man came carrying a turkey over his shoulder.

"Sure is a nice bird. Where did you get him?" asked the farmer.

"Back up in that cedar grove," replied the hunter.

"I've been here all morning and I didn't hear the shot, how did you get him?" the farmer inquired.

"Well, I'm sooooo ugly, I just kinda hunker down amongst the bushes and when he gets in real close, I jump out a screamin' and making such a face that it "uglies" them to death. I used to take my wife along, but she tore 'em up too bad".

Weekly Bible Verse John 13: 1-20 (ESV)

Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him,  Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God,  rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist.  Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.  He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?”  Jesus answered him,  “What I am doing  you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him,  “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!”  Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash,  except for his feet, but is completely clean. And  you are clean,  but not every one of you.” For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said,  “Not all of you are clean.” When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them,  “Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example,  that you also should do just as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you,  a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. I am not speaking of all of you; I know  whom I have chosen. But  the Scripture will be fulfilled, ‘He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.’I am telling you this now, before it takes place, that when it does take place you may believe that I am he. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”

Listener Feedback: From: Don Anderson Subject: Media Bias  Message Body:

Doug,

I share your concern about the "Twist" the media puts on things and how they not so tactfully push their opinions and agenda.  However, I think you were a bit short sighted and unfair in episode 53, "Range Rules, Safety & Etiquette".  You complained about the press reporting that the Chicago PD was conducting their investigation into the off duty Officer involved shooting as a homicide investigation.  I believe they were probably reporting exactly what Chicago PD told them.

Every death investigation and shooting investigation is conducted as a homicide investigation until proven otherwise.  In fact, the off duty shooting was in fact a homicide - a justifiable homicide.  There are several kinds of homicide - Justifiable Homicide, Murder, Voluntary Manslaughter, Involuntary Manslaughter and Vehicular Manslaughter.   Justifiable Homicide and Murder are intentional acts.  All three types of Manslaughter are unintentional. Only Justifiable Homicide is legal, the others are prohibited.

Every investigation is conducted the same way so that all the evidence is collected and preserved.  A homicide investigation is intended to determine if there was a crime or not and to prove either innocence or guilt.

I agree that the mainstream media targets gun owners and that "Evil" Second Amendment.  But we must be fair and informed when commenting on them was well.

Troy, I have been listening to the GNG podcasts from Podcast #1 on. I am now up to #51. I was in tears listening to your testimony about your neck injury and its unrelenting pain, followed by the loss of your job, home, and finances....and finally your pride. God allowed something similar to happen to me in the early 2000s. I was a high-paid executive at a Fortune 50 company and was RIFed in the Tech Meltdown after 17+ years with the company. Thinking to secure my future, I took the large severance payment along with a an inheritance given to me by my mother and bought 1/3 of a national mfg. company that my neighbor owned (I knew him for 10 years). After about 2 years, my partner bled me dry financially, and when I finally cut off the money, he booted me out of the company. I was broke, jobless, and over 50 years old in a poor job market. It finally brought me to my knees and I threw myself onto the Lord's mercy. Thankfully, to the glory of our Lord, He directed me to self-employment consulting with local governments and a part-time job working for Christian owners of the newest gun range in North Texas. My savings have been replenished and my wife and I just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. More importantly, I maintain a humble spirit by joyfully cleaning the bathrooms, sweeping up brass, and mopping the floors at the gun range, even though I am now a manager there. I am blessed that the Lord has restored me, spiritually and financially, and he even led us to reconnect with one of our neighborhood couples who led us to Fellowship Church in Grapevine, TX, which has become our home of worship. I just wanted you to know how your testimony resonated with me. I listen to all the podcasts and consider them a blessing. I pray for you and Doug to continue with this ministry and for our Lord to bless you and your families.

“Blessed be the Lord, my rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle;” (Psalms 144:1 NASB)

Weekly Bible Verse

“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money,  come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.     Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.    Incline your ear, and come to me;  hear, that your soul may live;  and I will make with you an everlasting covenant,  my steadfast, sure love for David.     Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples,  a leader and commander for the peoples.     Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know, and a nation that did not know you shall run to you, because of the  Lord  your God, and of the Holy One of Israel,  for he has glorified you.     “Seek the  Lord  while he may be found; call upon him while he is near;    let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the  Lord , that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.    For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the  Lord .     For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:1-9

Erick Menendez Heading: Great Show

Good morning: I just wanted to tell you all hello from Louisville and let you know that you have a great show going. I've been listening to the show for a while and it's probably one of the best out there.

So keep up the good work! Regards, EM

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------From: Ben Arisman Hey Troy and Doug,

I have been with you guys from the very first episode! I love every episode and really appreciate your time spent in the Word and it's applications to today...even those passages for the Old Testament. I studied Hebrew in college and was blown away by studying the Old Testament. Unfortunately I think too many Christian today disregard just how applicable the old Testament can be, not to mention how incredible it is to see how every passage of the OT points to Christ!

I am a back country boy from the hills of Pennsylvania but I currently work on a university campus in bio medical research and am unable to carry while at work. Any time I am not at work I carry my Springfield XD9 in a Galco IWB holster.

I struggle with knowing whether or not I would draw my gun in defense of my own life, being fully assured that if I die I would be with The Lord. That being said, I chose to carry daily in order to be able to defend those who either can't or choose not to defend themselves if the situation leaves no other alternatives. Maybe this is something that could be discussed in a future episode, as a Christian, when is it acceptable to draw (if there are no other alternatives) and is it ever better to lay down ones own life?

Another suggestion may be to interview religious leaders who carry, especially in light of the huge success of the "church carry" episode. My father-in-law is the district superintendent for the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church denomination in western Pennsylvania. He doesn't carry on his person all the time but he usually has a firearms close by (usually a .44 mag desert eagle). He is also an avid hunter and outdoors-man. If you would be interested I can ask him or send you his contact info. You by no means would have to use him but if you were interested I thought he could give you a place to start.

Thanks for all the hard work you put into the show! Gun are good but God is great!

Brandon Subject: My situation...

Hey guys I have been listening to the podcast for a while and I hear your testimony of faith and I don't have that kind of story. I have been in church since I can remember and have recently found my way back to Christ and am going to church twice a week after a hiatus due to differences with a church when I went to college. I am in a situation at work where there is a lot of sexual comments and what not. I find myself angry and having meltdowns at home. Also I find myself cursing more and I am not liking who I am becoming. I have tried to change my situation but the jobs are not here. I pray and read my devotions looking for guidance but I don't know what to do. I don't know if the devil is testing my faith or if I am just having a rough go at it. Any guidance would be appreciated. Keep up the great work guys!!

Weekly Bible Verse:

Response to Brandon, Take heart, I have been where you are many times as God worked on me through the years. I too was raised in the church and was active in programs and missions. I was saved at an early age and through my high school years I found myself becoming more worldly. When I went off to college, I became completely worldly without my family and church families eyes on me. Although when I would come home to visit I went to church, and I even attended a church near my college; my soul was in total rebellion to God. Oddly we always think we are fooling people or covering our tracks, but our thoughts are what God judges.

Conviction: You and I are just like Paul when he confessed the guilt he had over his own sin life. Roman 7:15-19 “For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.  Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good.  So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.  For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.  For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.  Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.” (ESV)

Take Captive every thought: My dilemma was Jesus was my "savior" but not my "Lord". I had to learn the painful and hard way that Jesus wants all of me. That begins with taking captive our thoughts. As Paul said in:

2 Corinthians 10:5 “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” The whole chapter 10 is great to meditate on. The more I have had to battle sin the more God has revealed to me that it was not my friends, music, outside influences that caused me to sin. It was I wanted to sin, I was not a good person, I was the cause of my sin. We cannot do anything good apart from Christ.

Submission: So Brandon, I think you are on the right track. You are convicted of your sin, and seem repentant, and you want to stop going back to the same sin. So I believe the Holy Spirit is at work convicting you. My recommendation is first make sure that you have accepted Jesus as your “Lord” and are dying to yourself Daily (hourly, by the minute). See Luke 9: 23-26 “And he said to all,  “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and  take up his cross  daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed  when he comes in  his glory and the glory of the Father and of  the holy angels.. “ (ESV)

Dying to self: Remember part of that dying to self is also giving God all your concerns, issues, and emotions. We are to totally submit our will to God’s, so we are to give him everything else. See Matthew 11:28-30 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden  and  overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]  Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls. [Jer. 6:16.]  For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good–not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light  and  easy to be borne. (AMP)  also Psalm 55:22 “Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you; He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail). [I Pet. 5:7.]  But You, O God, will bring down the wicked into the pit of destruction; men of blood and treachery shall not live out half their days. But I will trust in, lean on, and confidently rely on You.” (AMP)

Scripture: Devotions are okay, but you need to make sure you are reading the whole scripture, or listen to it. You can do this on audio, video, or just by reading it.

Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;  because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God,  I also will forget your children.”

Psalm 119:11-12 “Your word have I laid up in my heart, that I might not sin against You. Blessed are You, O Lord; teach me Your statutes.” (ESV)

Continue in your prayer: Pray that God would reveal himself through the scriptures and that he would help you to resist sin. I pray this daily. The more you seek God the more he reveals himself. Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” (ESV)

Flee from Evil: As far as cursing, I noticed when I hung around people who cussed, or watched programs and movies with cursing; I was more likely to say it too. If people around you are talking in appropriately, pray that God would close their mouths as he did for Daniel in the lion’s den. When a bad conversation starts up walk away, if that is not possible, change the subject or start asking for prayer request. Pray for them and start asking about them and their families and issues. Show God’s love because apart from God’s intervention we would be just like them. 2 Timothy 2:21-26 “Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work. So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.  Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels.  And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil,  correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth,  and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.” (ESV)

Philippians 4:8-9 “For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely  and  lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue  and  excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on  and  weigh  and  take account of these things [fix your minds on them].  Practice what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and model your way of living on it, and the God of peace (of untroubled, undisturbed well-being) will be with you.” (AMP)

Finally rest in his Grace: Since it is God who does the work in you to make you in His image (sanctification), rest in His Grace.  As Paul said in Philippians 1:6-11 “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.  It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel.  For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.  And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment,  so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,  filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” (ESV)

iTunes Reviews: Dvitt81 (United States of America) Great podcast Rating: 5 Stars Been listening to this podcast since it was released. It has become one of my favorites and I listen as soon as it's downloaded. It is always entertaining and it has also helped me with my relationship with God. I was concerned when the host of the show changed, but it has only gotten better and is improved ever show. The new host has turned it into my top podcast. I only wish the chuck Norris jokes would end, but I can suffer through since that's my only complaint

686rick (Australia) Keep up the great work! Rating: 5 Stars On of my favorite podcast, look forward to it every week.

Listener Feedback: Hey Troy & Doug, Just want to start off by saying you'll be glad to know you've picked up a fellow Kentuckian who listens to the podcast. I'm way across the state in southeastern KY.  I love the show. I listen to it often at work and it's always nice to hear from other Christians who own guns (being a Christian gun owner myself). Great show! Keep up the good work! Sincerely, Matt Barnhill

Just listened to ep 52 and heard you talking about older shows. I wanted to listen to the "prepper" and "Church Carry" shows, but they aren't available on iTunes. Are they going to be reposted in the future? Peter Wiktorski

 Weekly Bible Verse

The Parable of the Persistent Widow 1 And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. 2 He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. 3 And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ 4 For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’” 6 And the Lord said,“Hear what the unrighteous judge says. 7 And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? 8 I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

NRA Armed Citizen Grandmother fights off shotgun-wielding robber, The Shreveport Times, Shreveport, La. 01/06/14 63-year-old Elzie Pipkins was at home in Shreveport, La. when an intruder armed with a shotgun forced his way inside the house. Once inside, the intruder ordered Pipkins’ granddaughter to fill a bag with valuables, while Pipkins begged the criminal to leave with the money in her purse. Pipkins eventually led the intruder to a safe where she keeps some change and a handgun. Pipkins opened the safe and offered the change to the intruder, at which point the criminal took a hand off his shotgun, giving Pipkins an opportunity to retrieve the pistol from the safe and fire it at the robber. The home invader was struck once in the chest and fled before collapsing a block away from Pipkins’ home. Following the shooting, Pipkins made clear she did not relish shooting the criminal, stating to a local news outlet, “Just $55 in coins, and he lost his life, Lord Jesus I wish the young people today would just think, go to school, get an education and a good job and buy what you want... Don’t try to take from someone who has worked all their life and still doesn’t have nothing to give.”

It is my night stand gun. 100% reliable, guess I got lucky :) but I love the podcast, thank you guys so much for standing tall for Jesus. Love the scripture references but I'm wondering why don't y'all open or close in prayer? Just a suggestion. Keep pointing others to Jesus!”

Joe says: “Hey Guys,

I have been listening since the first show and love what your doing and stand for. I too am a follower of Jesus and love firearms. Last fall God revealed the dream he had for my wife and myself, which was to open an indoor range for firearms and archery in our small central IL. county(Stark). Well the first step was getting my FFL which I got in May and Promised Land Firearms was born. We even won a contest for new business ideas in our area sponsored by the local college and extension groups. We are still working on all the business preparations for the range but know God is giving us time to grow and prepare for that venture. Well now I want to give a little back(no not a gun). I want to donate a 4oz bottle of Froglube and a package of Froglube wipes(5 reusable in 1 pack). I will ship direct to the winner(s) when you draw the name. You can give in two draws or one your choice. Contact me with any questions. You can check my website at www.promisedlandfirearms.com   Courtesy of Ryan Cross  GOD BLESS    Believe Jeremiah 29:11”

Weekly Bible Verse: James 5:1-6

“Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. 2 Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. 3 Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. 4 Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. 5 You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter.[a] 6 You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.” (NIV)
