Comedy Corner:

A Socialist, Muslim and a Democrat walked into a bar. The bartender said “Mr. President, What can I get for you.”

A Senator is in a restaurant and the waiter brings over the rolls, but no butter. "May I have some butter, please?" The waiter gives a slight nod and wanders off. Ten minutes later, still no butter. The senator catches his eye.

"May I have some butter, Please?"

Still the vaguest of responses, and after ten more minutes, still no butter.

"Maybe you don't know who I am," says the senator. "I'm a Princeton graduate, a Rhodes scholar an All-American basketball player who played with the New York Knicks in the pros, and I'm currently a United States senator, chairman of the International Debt Subcommittee of the Senate Finance Committee, chairman of the Water and Power Subcommittee of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and a member of the Senate Select Intelligence Committee."

"Maybe you don't know who I am," said the waiter. "I'm the guy who's in charge of the butter".

Hi Troy & Doug

I am a  fairly new lister to the podcast but love it. Normally I don't go out on a limb but found this product and more about the company. Recently I ordered a Real Avid Gun Tool from Midway USA. To my surprise when I opened it I found they had a scripture quote in the directions and are followers of Christ in their business dealings. WOW we gotta send these guys some business.   Thanks and keep up the great work.  GOD Bless!

Bible Verses

Warning Against Worldliness 1 What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? 2You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.4 You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? 6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. 11 Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. 12 There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor? James 4:1-12 (ESV)

Listener Feedback: From: Don Anderson Subject: Media Bias  Message Body:

Doug,

I share your concern about the "Twist" the media puts on things and how they not so tactfully push their opinions and agenda.  However, I think you were a bit short sighted and unfair in episode 53, "Range Rules, Safety & Etiquette".  You complained about the press reporting that the Chicago PD was conducting their investigation into the off duty Officer involved shooting as a homicide investigation.  I believe they were probably reporting exactly what Chicago PD told them.

Every death investigation and shooting investigation is conducted as a homicide investigation until proven otherwise.  In fact, the off duty shooting was in fact a homicide - a justifiable homicide.  There are several kinds of homicide - Justifiable Homicide, Murder, Voluntary Manslaughter, Involuntary Manslaughter and Vehicular Manslaughter.   Justifiable Homicide and Murder are intentional acts.  All three types of Manslaughter are unintentional. Only Justifiable Homicide is legal, the others are prohibited.

Every investigation is conducted the same way so that all the evidence is collected and preserved.  A homicide investigation is intended to determine if there was a crime or not and to prove either innocence or guilt.

I agree that the mainstream media targets gun owners and that "Evil" Second Amendment.  But we must be fair and informed when commenting on them was well.

Troy, I have been listening to the GNG podcasts from Podcast #1 on. I am now up to #51. I was in tears listening to your testimony about your neck injury and its unrelenting pain, followed by the loss of your job, home, and finances....and finally your pride. God allowed something similar to happen to me in the early 2000s. I was a high-paid executive at a Fortune 50 company and was RIFed in the Tech Meltdown after 17+ years with the company. Thinking to secure my future, I took the large severance payment along with a an inheritance given to me by my mother and bought 1/3 of a national mfg. company that my neighbor owned (I knew him for 10 years). After about 2 years, my partner bled me dry financially, and when I finally cut off the money, he booted me out of the company. I was broke, jobless, and over 50 years old in a poor job market. It finally brought me to my knees and I threw myself onto the Lord's mercy. Thankfully, to the glory of our Lord, He directed me to self-employment consulting with local governments and a part-time job working for Christian owners of the newest gun range in North Texas. My savings have been replenished and my wife and I just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. More importantly, I maintain a humble spirit by joyfully cleaning the bathrooms, sweeping up brass, and mopping the floors at the gun range, even though I am now a manager there. I am blessed that the Lord has restored me, spiritually and financially, and he even led us to reconnect with one of our neighborhood couples who led us to Fellowship Church in Grapevine, TX, which has become our home of worship. I just wanted you to know how your testimony resonated with me. I listen to all the podcasts and consider them a blessing. I pray for you and Doug to continue with this ministry and for our Lord to bless you and your families.

“Blessed be the Lord, my rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle;” (Psalms 144:1 NASB)

Weekly Bible Verse

“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money,  come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.     Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.    Incline your ear, and come to me;  hear, that your soul may live;  and I will make with you an everlasting covenant,  my steadfast, sure love for David.     Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples,  a leader and commander for the peoples.     Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know, and a nation that did not know you shall run to you, because of the  Lord  your God, and of the Holy One of Israel,  for he has glorified you.     “Seek the  Lord  while he may be found; call upon him while he is near;    let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the  Lord , that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.    For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the  Lord .     For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:1-9

 Weekly Bible Verse

The Parable of the Persistent Widow 1 And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. 2 He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. 3 And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ 4 For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’” 6 And the Lord said,“Hear what the unrighteous judge says. 7 And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? 8 I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

NRA Armed Citizen Grandmother fights off shotgun-wielding robber, The Shreveport Times, Shreveport, La. 01/06/14 63-year-old Elzie Pipkins was at home in Shreveport, La. when an intruder armed with a shotgun forced his way inside the house. Once inside, the intruder ordered Pipkins’ granddaughter to fill a bag with valuables, while Pipkins begged the criminal to leave with the money in her purse. Pipkins eventually led the intruder to a safe where she keeps some change and a handgun. Pipkins opened the safe and offered the change to the intruder, at which point the criminal took a hand off his shotgun, giving Pipkins an opportunity to retrieve the pistol from the safe and fire it at the robber. The home invader was struck once in the chest and fled before collapsing a block away from Pipkins’ home. Following the shooting, Pipkins made clear she did not relish shooting the criminal, stating to a local news outlet, “Just $55 in coins, and he lost his life, Lord Jesus I wish the young people today would just think, go to school, get an education and a good job and buy what you want... Don’t try to take from someone who has worked all their life and still doesn’t have nothing to give.”

Comedy Corner: In light of the rising frequency of human/grizzly bear conflicts, the Montana Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take precautions and keep alert for bears while in the field.

"We advise that outdoorsmen wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle bears that aren't expecting them. We also advise outdoorsmen to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear. It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity. Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear poop. Black bear poop is smaller and contains lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear poop has little bells in it and smells like pepper. "

Listener Email: Troy, Thanks for clearing up my email from last week and giving some feedback. Its good to hear other Christian's thoughts on topics we don't always agree on. I just came from church and started listening to your last show talking about Simon Peter. That is the same person our preacher talked about here in Belgium. He talked about Peter as an example of a real person we can all relate too. Simon displayed signs of faith and faltered at the same time. He was the only disciple to try and walk on water, he told Jesus he would never leave him at the last supper (he would), never deny him (he did X3), after Jesus's death he jumped out of the boat and swam to shore when he saw Jesus and talked with him while the other disciples rowed, and he was even told to basically shut up and listen to Jesus by God on the mountain with the 2 other disciples. Simon Peter's life showed great faith and how human every man is when we do not have faith, listen, or follow God's plan for us. Warner Paredes

Weekly Bible Verse Ephesians 6:18-20 (ESV) 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, 19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak. Troy,

God and Guns is great, I can't think of a better mashup of topics for a podcast...unless maybe you added bass fishing...ie: God, guns, and monster bass...haha. I simply wanted to let you know that I support what you're doing and wanted to voice my encouragement. I believe that there is true wisdom in many of the things discussed on the podcast and  feel confident that prayer goes into each episode.

So keep up the good work and keep me in mind to be a guest co-host someday (maybe a fun contest idea). Matthew Busby

Hey Troy! I enjoyed this show even though I've never hunted. Eating hog was something I was curious about since everyone makes them seem like varmints and say they carry disease, but good to know you can eat them and its ok if you choose.

On another note I had a more important issue to address. In this podcast you make reference to the story of Job. Without question we agree that in this story the devil comes to God. Satan's intentions are to break the most faithful man by any means God will allow. It is an amazing story. However, you make the comment that "The devil must always get permission from God" for things to occur in our lives. I disagree with that statement and thought I would share why, maybe other listeners can think about it more on their own. The assumption that God gives permission for all obstacles in our life does not fit. The world is full of sin not because of God's permission, but of His absence. We are given the freedom to choose our destiny. We walk by faith and His word, but not all things are of Him. Can you imagine telling a little girl she was molested because He allowed it, or to the thousands of people the were mutilated in the Holocaust, or purged in African villages it could stop as soon as God wanted it too. God is all knowing and powerful, but most of what happens on earth is not because of His choosing, but the choice of humans Not include God in their life.

I'd be interested to hear how other Christians feel. Thank you and keep up the good work!

I understand your point, and I agree with you that we are responsible for the sin in our life and its consequences. As we can agree we are in a fallen world evil and full of wicked people. Yet as we also know, God is in control. He has a plan for our lives as it is written in  If we are not walking in a relationship and are living as the lost, then I agree with Paul when he said examine ourselves.

I understand that I may have done a poor job clarifying that when I meant was attack, to say where we have done no discernable act to bring about the circumstances we have to deal with. What I should have said is if we are a child of God's walking in a relationship with him and we are thrown into chaos then come under a perceived attack, not to assume it is from the devil. I reference Proverbs 3: 5-6 5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

As with Job the description of Job was he was in a right relationship with God and acceptable and thus blessed by God. However because it glorified God that Job was made to suffer it still happened. Not because the devil had free reign, but because through that struggle Job showed himself totally reliant upon God.

I go to the verses 1 Corinthians 10:13 where we are told that this is a limit placed upon our temptations and that we are given the ability to flee. It is the process of sanctification. Luke 22:31 31 “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, 32 but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”
