The Ham Sandwich A Jewish rabbi and a Catholic priest were good friends. At a picnic one day, the priest was eating a ham sandwich. "You know," he said to his friend, "this ham sandwich is delicious. I know you're not supposed to eat ham, but I don't understand why such a good thing would be forbidden. When will you break down and try it?"

To which the rabbi replied, "At your wedding."

Top Ten Reasons Eve Was Created 10. God was worried that Adam would frequently become lost in the garden because he would not ask for directions. 9. God knew that one day Adam would require someone to locate and hand him the remote. 8. God knew Adam would never go out and buy himself a new fig leaf when his wore out and would therefore need Eve to buy one for him. 7. God knew Adam would never be able to make a doctor, dentist or haircut appointment for himself. 6. God knew Adam would never remember which night to put the garbage on the curb. 5. God knew if the world was to be populated, men would never be able to handle the pain and discomfort of childbearing. 4. As the Keeper of the Garden, since he didn't have metal sheds or greenhouses, Adam would never remember where he left his tools. 3. Apparently, Adam needed someone to blame his troubles on when God caught him hiding in the garden. 2. As the Bible says, "It is not good for man to be alone!" And the #1 reason why God created Eve: 1. When God finished the creation of Adam, He stepped back, scratched His head and said, "I can do better than that!"

From: Chris Konz Subject: Alien Holster

Hey guys my name is Chris I'm from Sanger Texas. I have had my CHL for about a month now and just order a Alien Holster thanks to you Doug and his review of it. I can't wait to get it in the mail and to start using it. I just started listening to your show for a week now and went from the 1st show to the last one. I have to confess that I am not as close to God as I should be but I do believe in him wholeheartedly. I plan on becoming closer to him and letting go completely to him. I wasn't raised with guns but here in the past 6 months they have been one of my expensive passions. I currently have a M&P Shield 9mm, yes I know its not a 45 but like yall say you have to start somewhere. I also have a savage 320 defense shotgun and I am about to buy a Mossburg 500. Just wanted to stop by and tell yall how good yall are doing and how much I love the show. Oh and dont worry Doug I think I am more terrified of snakes than you are. Alright guys cant wait to hear what y'all have to say about a guy from Texas on the show but I will let you know what I think about the Holster after I get it in. Keep it up guys. Hear from ya soon.

From: Brad (Part II) Subject: Sorry for the confusion of my last email!

I apologize for my confusion. Doug, I am very thankful for your faith and insights, even though you are not EJ Owens. I feel really stupid right now. Can you tell I am just getting into all this youtube, and podcast stuff? I did listen to your interview of E.J. Owens, and that is how I found your podcast. So some credit does need to go to E.J. at legallyconcealed.org, for getting you guys a new listener. I don't do facebook, twitter or all that stuff. Have you thought about a regular newsletter via email and/or website with regular articles? You guys have, in my opinion, a very good mix of spiritual and practical insight that is very refreshing! Thank you for all you do!

Weekly Bible Verses

God’s Everlasting Love

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?  He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?  Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.  Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?  As it is written,  “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”    No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,  nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~Romans 8:31-39 (ESV)

Homeowner holds intruder at gunpoint until police arrive, The Tampa Bay Times, Tampa Bay, Fla. 09/03/14 Around 4:30 a.m., Joseph Cihak, a homeowner in St. Petersburg, Fla., awakened and went to use the bathroom. While heading to the bathroom, Cihak came upon an intruder armed with a knife. Cihak was armed with a gun at the time and fired at the criminal twice before his gun malfunctioned. Cihak retrieved another gun and captured the unharmed home invader. As Cihak was holding the intruder for police, the criminal attempted to bargain with him. Cleaning the Attic

While cleaning the attic, Joan and Harry found an old stub for some shoes they left at the repair shop 10 years ago. They thought it would be funny to go to the shop and see if the shoes were still there. So they did. They handed the stub to the repair man who took it and looked in the back. He came out again and said, "They'll be ready on Wednesday."

To Be Six Again

George was a thoughtful husband. He wanted to give his wife something special for her birthday which was coming up soon. As he sat on the edge of the bed, he watched his wife turning back and forth and looking at herself in the mirror. "Reta," he said, "What would you like for your birthday?"

His wife continued to look at herself and said, "I'd like to be six again."

George knew just what to do. On the big day, he got up early and made his wife a bowl of Fruit Loops. Then he took her to an amusement park where they rode all the rides. Five hours later, Reta's stomach felt upside down and her head was reeling. Never the less, George took her to McDonald's and bought her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a chocolate shake. Next, it was a movie with popcorn, soda and her favorite candy.

As Reta wobbled into the house that evening and flopped on the bed, George asked her, "Well, Dear, what was it like to be six again?"

Reta looked up at him. Her expression changed. She said, "I meant my dress size!"

Weekly Bible Verses

And the Lord sent Nathan to David. He came to him and said to him, “There were two men in a certain city, the one rich and the other poor. The rich man had very many flocks and herds, but the poor man had nothing but one little ewe lamb, which he had bought. And he brought it up, and it grew up with him and with his children. It used to eat of his morsel and drink from his cup and lie in his arms, and it was like a daughter to him.  Now there came a traveler to the rich man, and he was unwilling to take one of his own flock or herd to prepare for the guest who had come to him, but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.” Then David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the Lord  lives, the man who has done this deserves to die,  and he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.” Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the  Lord, the God of Israel, ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul. And I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your arms and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah. And if this were too little, I would add to you as much more.  Why have you despised the word of the  Lord , to do what is evil in his sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and have taken his wife to be your wife and have killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.  Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’  Thus says the  Lord , ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house. And I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.  For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel and before the sun.’”  David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the  Lord .” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die.  Nevertheless, because by this deed you have utterly scorned the Lord, the child who is born to you shall die.” 2 Samuel 12:1-14 (ESV)

Philippians 3:20 20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ

2 Peter 1:1-2 1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: 2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. 2 Peter 1:11 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 3:18 17 Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

Jude 1:25 25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

Romans 10:9 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

1 John 3:4-24 4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. 7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. 10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.

More on Love and Hatred

11 For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. 12 Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous. 13 Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters,[a] if the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death. 15 Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him. 16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 19 This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence:20 If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24 The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

After several emails…

Thanks for taking the time to put that together.  I know it took some time out of your already busy evening.

Things make a lot more sense now.  The controversy I see is some people's definition of "Lordship."  I think some people are using the idea of Lordship as reaching or attaining to a certain level of sanctification.  That is the part I disagree with.  I do believe that after salvation people can go through some very hard times, spiritually, and rebel against God.

I'm glad you made the distinction between people who ARE saved and people who "think" they are saved, and that it is God's job to decide when a person actually receives salvation.  I believe that a person can accept Christ at a young age but go through a rough patch and have a longer rebellious period than others but this does not diminish Jesus' Lordship during that time.  Because Lordship is not conditional on any certain level of sanctification.  If it were, that's when Christianity becomes "works" based.

The parts of this email I've underlined are what I previously thought you were believing, but I understand now that you were sending the message that there are people who "think" they are saved and just living "good lives."

Another verse that sticks out in my mind is 1 Corinthians 5:5 regarding believers in the church who continue to sin even after confronted about it:  "You are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord."

There is a difference between that kind of living and the example you gave of David.  When confronted about his most notable sin, sexual immorality, David repented.  Lordship was in place but his flesh still emerged.

1 Corinthians 6:11 (regarding a list of immoral actions) says this: "And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."

Clerk chases off armed robber, WJCL, Savannah, Ga. 08/25/14

Clerk Rick Patel was working at a Shell Food Mart in Claxton, Ga. when a hooded man approached the counter and attempted to rob the store at gunpoint. Patel responded by retrieving a pistol, which then he used to chase the criminal out of the store. Police suspect the hooded man has committed several other armed robberies. Following the incident, Patel told Savannah’s WJCL, “I don’t like to shoot nobody but when it comes to my life I would. And thank God I didn’t get hurt, I didn’t kill him, otherwise I would have regretted but hey, you made the choice, regrets happen.” In recent years, some convenience store clerks have faced discipline following an act of armed self-defense. In a welcome departure from these instances, the owner of Patel’s store told the TV station, “I’m really proud. Whatever he did I’d like if everybody started doing it that way, robbery will be stopped, especially for convenience stores.”

Fishing License

Acouple of rednecks were fishing at their special pond off the beaten track when out of the bushes jumped the Game Warden.

Immediately, one of the boys threw his rod down and started running through the woods, and hot on his heels came the Game Warden.

After about a half mile the young man stopped and stooped over with his hands on his thighs to catch his breath and the Game Warden finally caught up to him.

"Let's see yer fishin' license, Boy!!" the Warden gasped.

With that, the fella pulled out his wallet and gave the Game Warden a valid fishing license.

"Well, son," said the Game Warden, "you must be about as dumb as a box of rocks! You don't have to run from me if you have a valid license!"

"Yes, sir," replied the young feller, "But my friend back there, well, he don't have one ..."

The Pig

This redneck was parked behind a trailer load of pigs near the zoo in Washington, DC. As the truck drove away--one of the pigs fell out. He walked over and picked the pig up and placed it in the front seat of his truck.

He was sitting there looking puzzled when a policeman walked up and asked what was going on. He told the story and the policeman recommended he take the pig to the zoo.

The redneck was sitting in the same spot the next day with the pig sitting up in the front seat. The cop said "didn't I ask you to take this pig to the zoo?"

The redneck replied "I did and he liked it so well--today I'm taking him to the movies!"

Subject: Historical Irony

Hey Troy, Hey Doug

Thought I'd share an interesting learning experience I had on vacation. Since our family loves history we had gone to Colonial Williamsburg where they have costumed interpreters who interact with the visitors and describe life in the 1700's. We saw several interpreters on the village green earnestly discussing some grave matter. I asked one of them what the unrest was about. "Good Sir, our gunpowder has gone missing from the magazine." he replied, "Without it we are defenseless, thus we are going hence to Lord Dunmore's residence to address the issue."

The issue (in 1775) it seems was that the man appointed by the Crown as Governor of Virginia, Lord Dunmore, feared the rise of the local colonial militias as a threat to his control of the citizenry. So he had ordered the Royal Marines to take the colonist's gunpowder, and with it their ability to defend themselves, from the magazine during the night with orders to place it on British warships several hours away.

Joining the group of visitors and interpreters I walked to the Governor's Place at the far end of the green where, standing behind two armed British Soldiers, we found "Lord Dunmore".  He explained that in fact he’d had the powder removed for our own safety as there were rumors of a possible slave rebellion. If need be he could return the powder to us within a half hour, but that would not be necessary since well-trained British troops were there to protect us.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Here was a lying government official, himself being well guarded by armed troops, wishing to curtail the freedom of the citizens to defend themselves. He then, by dealing in misinformation and citing vague rumors, tried to convince us that it was for our own good that he had covertly sent agents of the government to remove our means of self-defense. Furthermore we should now look to that same government for both fair treatment and protection from harm.

Talk about your historical irony. Back then such actions kick started a revolution. Just something to think about.

Take care, Dwayne

Weekly Bible Verses

Praise the Lord! I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation.  Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them. Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever.  He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered; the  Lord  is gracious and merciful. He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever. He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the inheritance of the nations. The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy;    they are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness. He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever.  Holy and awesome is his name!     The fear of the  Lord  is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. A man was asleep at home in Albuquerque, N.M. when a trio of armed robbers attempted to gain entry to the residence by claiming that they were police. The criminals ultimately broke down the door and got inside the home. The resident responded by retrieving a gun and firing at the home invaders, striking and killing one, and wounding another. The surviving intruders fled the home, but were later captured by police. The surviving home invaders have been charged with the murder of their accomplice. Comedy Corner:

Last Sunday, the pastor of a local church began his sermon with a supposedly true story...

"I was on a plane last week, flying from Chicago to California, when we ran into some very severe turbulence. As it got worse, the passengers became more and more alarmed, and finally even the flight attendants began to look concerned. Finally, one of them noticed that I had "REV." in front of my name on the passenger list came over to me and said, "Sir, this is really frightening. Do you suppose you could ... I don't know ... do something religious?"

"So I took up a collection."

A minister told his congregation, "Next week I plan to preach about the sin of lying. To help you understand my sermon, I want you all to read Mark 17."

The following Sunday, as he prepared to deliver his sermon, the minister asked for a show of hands. He wanted to know how many had read Mark 17. Every hand went up. The minister smiled and said,

"Mark has only sixteen chapters. I will now proceed with my sermon on the sin of lying."

Subject: What Bible are you packing?

Message Body:

Hey guys, I have a suggestion for a show topic. Christians are a lot like discerning gun owners, in the they are very particular about their Bibles. And like gun owners, Christians will almost always have more than one in their possession, for a multitude of purposes or reasons. Maybe there is the family heirloom Bible on the shelf, the highlighted and marked-up Bible in the night stand, a free Bible handed out by a local church or organization, the Bible app on their phone, etc. I personally have three paper copies: my large study Bible that my wife gave me on our wedding day (I'm convinced that it could serve as physical armor as much as spiritual armor), a leather thin-line Bible to take to work and church (EDC), and a compact BoB (Bug-out Bible) that I keep with my emergency supplies. How many Bibles do you own? And like what you put in your firearms, Christians get very opinionated about what is in their Bibles. What's in yours? KJV? NIV? ESV? Of course, most will agree that, like firearms, (almost) any version of the Bible is better than not having one at all.

I'll save my testimony for another time but I thought that would be good enough to start. Keep up the good work and I look forward to listening every week!

God bless,

Gospel Message

Jeremiah 29:13 (ESV)

13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

“A” is Admit. You must admit to God that you are a sinner. You must be sorry for your sins and turn away from sinning.  Verses that support this step are:

  • Romans 3:23
    • for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
  • Romans 6:23
    • For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
  • Acts 3:19
    • Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,
  • 1 John 1:9
    • If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

“B” is for Believe.  You must believe that Jesus is God’s Son and that God sent Jesus to pay       the penalty for sin. Verses about believing include:

  • John 3:16
    • For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
  • John 14:6
    • Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
  • Romans 5:8
    • But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

“C” is for Confess. You must confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Read the        following verse:

  • Romans 10:9-10,13
    • 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved…. 13for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

After you admit to God that you are a sinner, repent and turn from your sin, believe that Jesus is God’s Son sent to die to pay for the sins of the world, and confess your faith in Jesus, you are a Christian and know Jesus as your Savior.

"The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever." ~ John Adams --Adams wrote this in a letter to his wife, Abigail, on July 3, 1776.

"While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian." ~ George Washington --The Writings of Washington, pp. 342-343.

"Suppose a nation in some distant Region should take the Bible for their only law Book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited! Every member would be obliged in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice, kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love, and reverence toward Almighty God ... What a Eutopia, what a Paradise would this region be." ~ John Adams --Diary and Autobiography of John Adams, Vol. III, p. 9.

"Resistance to tyranny becomes the Christian and social duty of each individual. ... Continue steadfast and, with a proper sense of your dependence on God, nobly defend those rights which heaven gave, and no man ought to take from us." ~John Hancock (1st Signer of the Declaration of Independence) --History of the United States of America, Vol. II, p. 229.

"The hope of a Christian is inseparable from his faith. Whoever believes in the divine inspiration of the Holy Scriptures must hope that the religion of Jesus shall prevail throughout the earth. Never since the foundation of the world have the prospects of mankind been more encouraging to that hope than they appear to be at the present time. And may the associated distribution of the Bible proceed and prosper till the Lord shall have made 'bare His holy arm in the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God' (Isaiah 52:10)." ~ John Quincy Adams (6th U.S. President) --Life of John Quincy Adams, p. 248.

Blond Joke:

Bubba and Junior were standing at the base of a flagpole, looking up.

A woman walked by and asked what they were doing. "We're supposed to find the height of the flagpole," said Bubba, "but we don't have a ladder." The woman took a wrench from her purse, loosened a few bolts, and laid the pole down. Then she took a tape measure from her pocket, took a measurement and announced, "Eighteen feet, six inches," and walked away.

Junior shook his head and laughed. "Ain't that just like a blonde! We ask for the height, and she gives us the length!"

Lawyer Joke;

A doctor vacationing on the Riviera met an old lawyer friend and asked him what he was doing there. The lawyer replied, "Remember that lousy real estate I bought? Well, it caught fire, so here I am with the fire insurance proceeds. What are you doing here?" The doctor replied, "Remember that lousy real estate I had in Mississippi? Well, the river overflowed, and here I am with the flood insurance proceeds." The lawyer looked puzzled. "Gee," he asked, "how did you start the flood?"

Hello Fellas,

I've been listening to the older episodes once again because I really enjoy the way you explain those verses. It really helps me with my walk. I listened to the Happy New Year episode again tonight and I was curious how your new years resolutions were going. I was also wondering what your thoughts on fasting are as I have been considering starting one. Thanks for the great show. God Bless.

Wish List Additions AR platform .458 socom rossi circuit judge in .410/45LC and I must admit after hearing Doug talk about his Winchester 1897 I did a google search on it and i would LOVE to get my hands on one of those in 12 gauge. I really like those.

Good evening Gentlemen,

My name is Peter, and I have been listening to your show for about the last 6 months.  I have previously contacted you through facebook, and mentioned how I had introduced your show to a couple of my fellow AWANA workers as well as our youth minister.

I am writing to you today to ask for your advice regarding a situation that has come up in my church.  Tonight we had a going away party for our youth leader and his wife.  They are moving away from the metro area to a small town in the northern part of the state, where Derek has taken a position with the local fire department as an EMT.  While talking to Derek about his plans, and who would be taking over his position, I was asked if I was interested in helping out.  I have been involved in the children's ministry at the church for the last 5 years, first helping with Vacation Bible School as an all around assistant, and then with AWANA as a listener with T&T, and then as an assistant and finally leader of rec time.

While my wife and I enjoy helping the children, we both have felt burnt out and were planning on taking the next year off from service.  Tonight's events make me feel like I am still being called to serve, but I feel that I am in no way qualified to serve in a position with such responsibility.

My Life has been a series of ups and downs for the last 8 years.  I served 12 years as a law enforcement officer, before that was taken away because of a trainee accusing me of trying to shoot him.  During the investigations and subsequent legal battle,(altogether nearly 4 years)  this individual made claims under oath that were untrue, and even changed his story on several occasions.  Also, witness testimony, while not completely refuting his statements, did not exactly back up my side of the story.  It was during this time that I accepted Christ as my savior, and asked for his guidance.  I eventually felt that the best option for me and my family was to stop fighting and accept a misdemeanor plea bargain and take probation.

Despite my past, I have been welcomed by my church, and entrusted with the care and guidance of the children.  While I have read the Bible, and participate in study groups, I am in no way prepared to lead.  What advice would you give a person in my position.  I feel it is right to help, but I don't want to hinder the growth of the ministry, or worse be the cause of its undoing because of my past or inexperience.

Seeking wisdom to spread His glory.

Your Brother in Christ,

Hello Troy,

My name is Tom Buckley and I live in Lexington. I started listening to your podcast a couple months ago and I really look forward to listening each week. I am in the process of going back and catching up on the older episodes now too.

I usually carry one of two guns, either my SIG P938 or my 3" Kimber Master Carry Series Ultra 1911 - which is my first laser equipped gun. Like most serious CCDW holders I am liking, then not liking, then looking always for different holsters - more so than actual guns!

I am a brother of yours in Christ, and as you would imagine I enjoy guns as well.

In fact I insure a number of gun related & outdoor sports businesses - I am a Property & Casualty Insurance agent

We have a house down at Lake Cumberland, and down there is where I shoot the most. I'm not a big hunter, but mostly shoot for fun and also am a CCDW license holder. I don't know how close you are to Russell Springs, but if you ever want to come by on a weekend day we also shoot at a couple different farms down there where we can set up a good amount of targets, and just have a little fun.

Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy, as well as appreciate, what you guys do on the podcast!

Keep on sharing the word!

Troy and Doug,

I have contacted the show a couple of times over the past year or so, and I even won a hat from you guys (yep, that’s my picture on your instagram site). Today I am writing to get you opinion on a matter that involves God and, well not so much guns, but shooting. I am a photographer in Charleston, SC and I keep listen to several photography podcasts. I recent New Mexico court case has brought to light once again the debate of gay rights. Here is the link to the news article from the Christianity Today website:

To give just an overview, the photographer was sued for refusing to shoot a same sex wedding. I am fully aware of God's view on same sex couples so my question is; does that view extend to business transactions? Troy, I know you are in sales, would you refuse to sell to someone that is married to someone of the same sex? And, if all sin is equal in the eyes of our Lord, and Jesus said “let he who is without sin cast the first stone” are we to condemn and alienate homosexuals for that?

I guess I should have prefaced this email with letting you know that my questions are not directed to create a debate on the matter. I bring it to you guys in hopes of finding the middle ground between the rights of the photographer and the rights of the couple. I reckon that this is the cross roads that every country with freedoms have to face, the separation of church and state. I also am aware of what I would have done if I were the photographer. I guess to sum up my question, what is the biblical stance of being in that situation? Would it have been wrong in God's eyes if she had shot the wedding?

Thanks for the awesome podcast and everything you do. It is truly and inspiration.

Subject: IL CCW laws & church carry

Message Body:

Troy and Doug,

I couldn't wait for the Pistol Packing Preachers episode and thoroughly enjoyed listening to it.

One thing I wanted to mention about IL CCW laws is that places of worship are only considered private property, and as such, unless they post the official signage at the entrance (which looks like this https://ccl4illinois.com/ccw/Public/Signage.aspx, you are legally allowed to carry.

My church does not have a sign posted, but I am pretty sure that this is due to ignorance. That being said, I'm a bit torn on whether to talk to my pastor about CCW or not. If I proactively ask the pastor about the subject, it will most likely open up a can of worms. Maybe that is a discussion that has to happen in the future, but right now, ignorance is bliss. Do you guys think that people should notify their pastors that they are carrying in church?

If a pastor asked either of you to disarm yourself before coming to church, would you respect the pastor's wishes, move churches, or do 'concealed is concealed'? I guess this would also depend on how long you've been attending that particular church.

Thanks again for your show; I look forward to it every week.

Subject: God & Guns Activity Report

Hi Troy & Hi Doug,

Wanted to give a report on my latest God & Guns activity. My wife and I invited several young families with kids to join us for a weekend at a friend's deer camp. (Deer camp? Jeez this place is nicer than my house) My youngest daughter helped the kids learn & archery and to use the BB gun. I helped the adults learn to shoot using our faithful lever action .22 Henry. WE had some nice hikes and talks around the campfire. On Sunday morning My lovely bride & I lead a devotional/sharing time.

After we got back a girl in one family joined the National Archery in Schools Program Team at their school and another family went out and bought a Daisy for their their son & daughter.

We had a fine time together enjoying the outdoors & shooting sports but most importantly we were able to show God's love to some good folks.

Take care guys. Dwayne

Hey Troy and Doug,

Really enjoyed your last episode with Rev. Kenn Blanchard. I have listened to The Unnamed Church podcast of his for a little while now, it has been very helpful for me to learn more about the scriptures. Maybe some of the listeners of this show might want to check it out? Keep up the great work, shows like yours and the Unnamed church have been a true blessing to me and I thank God for that.

Weekly Bible Verse

Romans 6:1-23 (ESV)

What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?  By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?  Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?  We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.    For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.  We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.  For one who has died has been set free from sin.  Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.  We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.  For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.  So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.    Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions.  Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.  For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.    What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!  Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?  But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed,  and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.  I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.     For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.  But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.  But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.  For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Hunting Trip

A young man from the city went to visit his farmer uncle. For the first few days, the uncle showed him the usual things - chickens, cows, crops, etc. After three days, however, it was obvious that the nephew was getting bored, and the uncle was running out of things to amuse him with.

Finally, the uncle decided to give them a real treat. "Why don't you grab a gun, take my prized hunting dogs, and go have some fun shooting?" This seemed to cheer the nephew up, and with enthusiasm, off he went, dogs in trail.

After a few hours, the nephew returned.

"How did you enjoy that?" asked the uncle.

"It was great!" exclaimed the nephew. "Got any more dogs?"

Holy Dog

An avid duck hunter was in the market for a new bird dog. His search ended when he found a dog that could actually walk on water to retrieve a duck. Shocked by his find, he was sure none of his friends would ever believe him. He decided to try to break the news to a friend of his, the eternal pessimist who refused to be impressed with anything. This, surely, would impress him.

He invited him to hunt with him and his new dog. As they waited by the shore, a flock of ducks flew by. they fired, and a duck fell. The dog responded and jumped into the water. The dog, however, did not sink but instead walked across the water to retrieve the bird, never getting more than his paws wet. This continued all day long; each time a duck fell, the dog walked across the surface of the water to retrieve it. The pessimist watched carefully, saw everything, but did not say a single word.

On the drive home the hunter asked his friend, "Did you notice anything unusual about my new dog?" "I sure did," responded the pessimist. "He can’t swim!"

Whats the difference between a hunter and a fisherman? A hunter lies in wait. A fisherman waits and lies.

iTunes Review: Stout69 (USA) Refreshing Rating: 5 Stars I found your show while I was searching for info on an AR build and I really love it. Awesome work guys. Thank you and God bless. Weekly Bible Verse

Shepherd the Flock of God 1 Peter 5:1-11 (ESV) So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.  Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

In the most recent burglary, a man aggressively tried to open a window at the stand and appeared to have a gun. The barista kept the window locked, grabbed her gun and called police. The man took off before police arrived.

NRA Armed Citizen Right-to-Carry permit holder fells robber, My Fox Detroit, Detroit, Mich. 02/22/14, WXYZ, Detroit, Mich. 02/22/14, The Detroit News, 01/31/14

A woman was heading inside after pulling her car into the garage at her Detroit, Mich. home when a man armed with a gun attempted to rob her. In response, the resident, a Right-to-Carry permit holder, drew a gun and shot the attacker, killing him. The shooting marked the third recorded incident in a week in which armed Detroit residents defended themselves from criminal attack. This string of defensive gun uses follows a late-January statement by Detroit Police Chief James Craig, in which the he noted, “I did, in fact, say that good Americans, good Detroiters, if responsible, could get CPLs, and that it could — emphasis on the word ‘could’ — be a deterrent to violent crime. I said that because of my experience in four cities, having seen good Americans and good Detroiters that have CCWs, and what effect it has had on deterring violent crime.”

I studied Hebrew in college and was blown away by studying the Old Testament. Unfortunately I think too many Christian today disregard just how applicable the old Testament can be, not to mention how incredible it is to see how every passage of the OT points to Christ!

I am a back country boy from the hills of Pennsylvania but I currently work on a university campus in bio medical research and am unable to carry while at work. Any time I am not at work I carry my Springfield XD9 in a Galco IWB holster.

I struggle with knowing whether or not I would draw my gun in defense of my own life, being fully assured that if I die I would be with The Lord. That being said, I chose to carry daily in order to be able to defend those who either can't or choose not to defend themselves if the situation leaves no other alternatives. Maybe this is something that could be discussed in a future episode, as a Christian, when is it acceptable to draw (if there are no other alternatives) and is it ever better to lay down ones own life?

Another suggestion may be to interview religious leaders who carry, especially in light of the huge success of the "church carry" episode. My father-in-law is the district superintendent for the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church denomination in western Pennsylvania. He doesn't carry on his person all the time but he usually has a firearms close by (usually a .44 mag desert eagle). He is also an avid hunter and outdoors-man. If you would be interested I can ask him or send you his contact info. You by no means would have to use him but if you were interested I thought he could give you a place to start.

Thanks for all the hard work you put into the show! Gun are good but God is great!

Brandon Subject: My situation...

Hey guys I have been listening to the podcast for a while and I hear your testimony of faith and I don't have that kind of story. I have been in church since I can remember and have recently found my way back to Christ and am going to church twice a week after a hiatus due to differences with a church when I went to college. I am in a situation at work where there is a lot of sexual comments and what not. I find myself angry and having meltdowns at home. Also I find myself cursing more and I am not liking who I am becoming. I have tried to change my situation but the jobs are not here. I pray and read my devotions looking for guidance but I don't know what to do. I don't know if the devil is testing my faith or if I am just having a rough go at it. Any guidance would be appreciated. Keep up the great work guys!!

Weekly Bible Verse:

Response to Brandon, Take heart, I have been where you are many times as God worked on me through the years. I too was raised in the church and was active in programs and missions. I was saved at an early age and through my high school years I found myself becoming more worldly. When I went off to college, I became completely worldly without my family and church families eyes on me. Although when I would come home to visit I went to church, and I even attended a church near my college; my soul was in total rebellion to God. Oddly we always think we are fooling people or covering our tracks, but our thoughts are what God judges.

Conviction: You and I are just like Paul when he confessed the guilt he had over his own sin life. Roman 7:15-19 “For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.  Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good.  So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.  For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.  For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.  Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.” (ESV)

Take Captive every thought: My dilemma was Jesus was my "savior" but not my "Lord". I had to learn the painful and hard way that Jesus wants all of me. That begins with taking captive our thoughts. As Paul said in:

2 Corinthians 10:5 “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” The whole chapter 10 is great to meditate on. The more I have had to battle sin the more God has revealed to me that it was not my friends, music, outside influences that caused me to sin. It was I wanted to sin, I was not a good person, I was the cause of my sin. We cannot do anything good apart from Christ.

Submission: So Brandon, I think you are on the right track. You are convicted of your sin, and seem repentant, and you want to stop going back to the same sin. So I believe the Holy Spirit is at work convicting you. My recommendation is first make sure that you have accepted Jesus as your “Lord” and are dying to yourself Daily (hourly, by the minute). See Luke 9: 23-26 “And he said to all,  “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and  take up his cross  daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed  when he comes in  his glory and the glory of the Father and of  the holy angels.. “ (ESV)

Dying to self: Remember part of that dying to self is also giving God all your concerns, issues, and emotions. We are to totally submit our will to God’s, so we are to give him everything else. See Matthew 11:28-30 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden  and  overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]  Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls. [Jer. 6:16.]  For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good–not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light  and  easy to be borne. (AMP)  also Psalm 55:22 “Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you; He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail). [I Pet. 5:7.]  But You, O God, will bring down the wicked into the pit of destruction; men of blood and treachery shall not live out half their days. But I will trust in, lean on, and confidently rely on You.” (AMP)

Scripture: Devotions are okay, but you need to make sure you are reading the whole scripture, or listen to it. You can do this on audio, video, or just by reading it.

Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;  because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God,  I also will forget your children.”

Psalm 119:11-12 “Your word have I laid up in my heart, that I might not sin against You. Blessed are You, O Lord; teach me Your statutes.” (ESV)

Continue in your prayer: Pray that God would reveal himself through the scriptures and that he would help you to resist sin. I pray this daily. The more you seek God the more he reveals himself. Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” (ESV)

Flee from Evil: As far as cursing, I noticed when I hung around people who cussed, or watched programs and movies with cursing; I was more likely to say it too. If people around you are talking in appropriately, pray that God would close their mouths as he did for Daniel in the lion’s den. When a bad conversation starts up walk away, if that is not possible, change the subject or start asking for prayer request. Pray for them and start asking about them and their families and issues. Show God’s love because apart from God’s intervention we would be just like them. 2 Timothy 2:21-26 “Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work. So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.  Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels.  And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil,  correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth,  and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.” (ESV)

Philippians 4:8-9 “For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely  and  lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue  and  excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on  and  weigh  and  take account of these things [fix your minds on them].  Practice what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and model your way of living on it, and the God of peace (of untroubled, undisturbed well-being) will be with you.” (AMP)

Finally rest in his Grace: Since it is God who does the work in you to make you in His image (sanctification), rest in His Grace.  As Paul said in Philippians 1:6-11 “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.  It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel.  For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.  And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment,  so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,  filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” (ESV)

I only wish the chuck Norris jokes would end, but I can suffer through since that's my only complaint

NRA Armed Citizen Customer halts armed robbery inside Family Dollar store, WPMI, Mobile, Ala. 11/13/13 Two employees of a Family Dollar store in Mobile, Ala. were unloading a truck, when a pair of armed robbers approached them. One of the criminals forced one of the employees to the front of the store, past terrified customers, and demanded that the employee open the safe. Upon witnessing the robbery, one customer drew a gun and fired at the thief, striking him and causing his accomplice to flee. Comedy Corner: In light of the rising frequency of human/grizzly bear conflicts, the Montana Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take precautions and keep alert for bears while in the field.

"We advise that outdoorsmen wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle bears that aren't expecting them. We also advise outdoorsmen to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear. It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity. Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear poop. Black bear poop is smaller and contains lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear poop has little bells in it and smells like pepper. "

Listener Email: Troy, Thanks for clearing up my email from last week and giving some feedback. Its good to hear other Christian's thoughts on topics we don't always agree on. I just came from church and started listening to your last show talking about Simon Peter. That is the same person our preacher talked about here in Belgium. He talked about Peter as an example of a real person we can all relate too. Simon displayed signs of faith and faltered at the same time. He was the only disciple to try and walk on water, he told Jesus he would never leave him at the last supper (he would), never deny him (he did X3), after Jesus's death he jumped out of the boat and swam to shore when he saw Jesus and talked with him while the other disciples rowed, and he was even told to basically shut up and listen to Jesus by God on the mountain with the 2 other disciples. Simon Peter's life showed great faith and how human every man is when we do not have faith, listen, or follow God's plan for us. Warner Paredes

Weekly Bible Verse Ephesians 6:18-20 (ESV) 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, 19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak. God and Guns is great, I can't think of a better mashup of topics for a podcast...unless maybe you added bass fishing...ie: God, guns, and monster bass...haha. I simply wanted to let you know that I support what you're doing and wanted to voice my encouragement. I believe that there is true wisdom in many of the things discussed on the podcast and  feel confident that prayer goes into each episode.

So keep up the good work and keep me in mind to be a guest co-host someday (maybe a fun contest idea). Matthew Busby

Hey Troy! I enjoyed this show even though I've never hunted. Eating hog was something I was curious about since everyone makes them seem like varmints and say they carry disease, but good to know you can eat them and its ok if you choose.

On another note I had a more important issue to address. In this podcast you make reference to the story of Job. Without question we agree that in this story the devil comes to God. Satan's intentions are to break the most faithful man by any means God will allow. It is an amazing story. However, you make the comment that "The devil must always get permission from God" for things to occur in our lives. I disagree with that statement and thought I would share why, maybe other listeners can think about it more on their own. The assumption that God gives permission for all obstacles in our life does not fit. The world is full of sin not because of God's permission, but of His absence. We are given the freedom to choose our destiny. We walk by faith and His word, but not all things are of Him. Can you imagine telling a little girl she was molested because He allowed it, or to the thousands of people the were mutilated in the Holocaust, or purged in African villages it could stop as soon as God wanted it too. God is all knowing and powerful, but most of what happens on earth is not because of His choosing, but the choice of humans Not include God in their life.

I'd be interested to hear how other Christians feel. Thank you and keep up the good work!

I understand your point, and I agree with you that we are responsible for the sin in our life and its consequences. As we can agree we are in a fallen world evil and full of wicked people. Yet as we also know, God is in control. He has a plan for our lives as it is written in  If we are not walking in a relationship and are living as the lost, then I agree with Paul when he said examine ourselves.

I understand that I may have done a poor job clarifying that when I meant was attack, to say where we have done no discernable act to bring about the circumstances we have to deal with. What I should have said is if we are a child of God's walking in a relationship with him and we are thrown into chaos then come under a perceived attack, not to assume it is from the devil. I reference Proverbs 3: 5-6 5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

As with Job the description of Job was he was in a right relationship with God and acceptable and thus blessed by God. However because it glorified God that Job was made to suffer it still happened. Not because the devil had free reign, but because through that struggle Job showed himself totally reliant upon God.

I go to the verses 1 Corinthians 10:13 where we are told that this is a limit placed upon our temptations and that we are given the ability to flee. It is the process of sanctification. Luke 22:31 31 “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, 32 but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”
