Subject: Christian Self Defense Resources

Troy,

I looked briefly on the website show notes, as well as on Facebook for something you and Doug have spoken of a number of times and I am hoping you can simplify my search by answering a question.

I recently had a discussion with some family members and did a poor job on rebuking the "turn the other cheek, aren't Christians called to be pacifists" statements. I referenced Peter being armed when Christ was taken away, etc but found myself poorly equipped to debate them on the subject and I do not intend to allow that to happen again.

There is a book you guys have spoken about a number of times on the subject of scriptural reference in support of Christians defending themselves and their families. And I figured I needed to read it and study the referenced scriptures so the next time this happens I can better explain my beliefs. Sadly too many of my friends and family do not feel as passionately as I do when it comes to the responsibility to be armed, trained and mentally prepared to defend yourself and your family.

Can you give me the title of that or other resources that might help me be better equipped to answer these kinds of questions?

As always thanks again for the awesome job you and Doug do of providing Godly focused content for the Christian gun owner.

Blessings,

- Chuck

The book is by Greg Hopkins Book A time to Kill,  The Myth of Christian Pacifism https://www.amazon.com/Time-Kill-Myth-Christian-Pacifism/dp/0982215150/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496787325&sr=8-1&keywords=a+time+to+kill+the+myth+of+christian+pacifism There are many verses the give Christian’s direction in personal defense, defense of family, community and nation. Greg does an excellent job in laying it out.

Many verses that leftist and non-believers are taken out of context. Specifically “turn the other cheek”, that refers retaliation” "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' 39But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. This is saying if someone wrongs you, you do not retaliate and take vengeance, you let God have vengeance and governments do its job and judge. It also says a slap, not to let them murder, rape or rob you.

The oft used “live by the sword, die by the sword” stating that if you fight the government by taking up arms you will be most likely killed with similar. We deal with attackers by sword (Gun) we are justified to defend ourselves and family.

Hope this helps,

Troy

Weekly Bible Verse
“I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness. They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness. The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made. All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord, and all your saints shall bless you! They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power, to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. [The Lord is faithful in all his words and kind in all his works.] The Lord upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing. The Lord is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works. The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them. The Lord preserves all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy. My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord, and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.”

NRA Armed Citizen
Lancaster city homeowner shoots intruder after early Sunday morning break-in, police say

CHAD UMBLE | Staff Writer Jun 4, 2017 Updated Jun 5, 2017

A Lancaster resident took “action that he thought was necessary” when he shot a man who kicked in the front door of his home Sunday morning, an official said.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident which occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Marietta Avenue.

"We're working backwards to decide what led to (this) and why," Lt. Bill Hickey said Monday. "There are no charges in the pipelines for the homeowners at this point."

Police said William Louis Stewart, 46, of Lancaster, kicked in the door, prompting a woman who lives there to scream for help from the first floor.

The woman’s husband, who was asleep upstairs, heard the commotion, retrieved a handgun, and confronted the intruder, who was advancing with a piece of wood, police said. The husband shot Stewart once in the chest, after which his wife called 911, according to police.

No one else was in the house at the time of the incident.

Stewart was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries that didn’t appear life-threatening.

He was released from the hospital before noon Monday, police said Tuesday.

According to court documents, Stewart was arraigned Monday afternoon on charges of burglary, simple assault and criminal mischief and committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.

The homeowners — whom police did not identify — were interviewed at the police station while the scene was processed for evidence. They told police they didn’t know Stewart and he had no reason to be in their home.

Winters said investigators are still trying to determine why Stewart went to that particular home and what his intentions were. He said the gun used in the shooting was legally-owned.

“The residents were very frightened to find someone forcing their way into their home through their front door and entering their home,” Winters said. “The homeowner took action that he thought was necessary to protect himself, his wife and their home. Fortunately, they were not injured.”

Police ask anyone with information to call Lancaster police at 717-735-3300. Tipsters also may call Lancaster City/County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-322-1913 or anonymously text LANCS plus your message to 847411 (TIP411).
