Mike talks to the men this time around. What can you learn about your firearms hobby?
God and Guns Podcast
Episode 021 - Man Up! Part 1
Welcome back to the God and Guns Podcast. I’m your host, Mike. And it’s just me again this week as Zack is taking some time off to spend with his wife and new son.
We use this podcast to talk about God, guns, and the responsible Christian gun owners interests.
Today we’ll learn what it means to Man Up!
-I want to say thanks to the Firearms Radio Network for sponsoring the bandwidth for this show.
-Jake is also looking for interns to help with audio and video.
-Chuck Norris once killed 25 terrorists with 2 bullets. The first was a warning shot.
-Chuck Norris doesn’t turn the lights off. He turns the dark on.
-What do you call cheese that isn’t yours? Chuck Norris’ cheese. -Mention my new venture with voice over. Listener Email:
-”Ruff” says: Mike and Zack, You guys do an awesome job with the show.
I have been a Born Again Christian since the age of 8 and am now 35, but have only been in to guns for about a year now. I was born and raised in southern California and it seems like it is illegal to even look at guns in California due to all the strict regulations, haha. Two years ago my family and I moved to Houston Texas... wow what a difference. The first year I was here I got into bow hunting having never hunted at all, that was interesting. This last year I decided that as every good Texan I needed to own a gun (or two), having some burglaries in our sub-division helped to sway my wife's vote too. My first purchase was a Remington 870 12 gauge w/ the 28" barrel. (I know it's not ideal for home defence but I also wanted to use it to hunt and figured I could always get the 18" barrel later on). My second acquisition was a used bolt action Remington 780 in .308 that I got from my uncle. I have not had a chance to hunt with them yet but eagerly looking forward to it. (Haven't had to use it for home defence either) I found the show by accident while looking for stuff to fill my iPod back in February and was hooked after listening to the first episode with your Statement of Faith. I haven't missed an episode since. I think my favorite episode is the hunting episode where I was introduced to Korby Taylor and the Wild Game Hunting Podcast, another podcast I never miss either. I love the format and topics of the show and am looking forward to learning more about both God and guns in the future with the new "Homework" portion as well as the discussed "in depth" look at specific firearm(s). As a newby to firearms I enjoy learning as much as I can. I pray the Lord continues to richly bless you both in all you do, and congrats to you Zack on the new addition to the family!
Micah says: I've been listening to your podcast from the beginning and admire your willingness to be a public witness and address the recent public taboo of firearms ownership. Thank you for being an good example to us all. I really enjoyed the church carry episode. I know at least 10 people at my church who carry and we only have about 125 members. A soft target, it is not. Some of the subject matter is kind of wanting and I find myself wanting to hear more hard hitting subject matter other than camouflage and such. However, I still love listening to you and know that we might get too involved in politics if we do that. A subject I would love to hear about is the faith of our founding fathers and how they used biblical principles to build our constitution and bill of rights. They did not just come up with it haphazardly but did use Biblical principles in writing these documents. I feel this is why our rights our being trampled on, we have forgotten God as a society. You could also talk about our natural right to self preservation and how Christians can and have handled that.
Another subject might be conservative Christian gun owner clubs and groups to join and what they do to contribute to the spread of Gods word and our freedoms. Also tell how to join them and maybe have a few leaders on for interviews.
Keep up the good work. I'm praying for you guys (notice no y'all, not from Texas). Five stars! Weekly Bible Verse: James 1:13-15
“When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. (NIV)
Homework: James 2:1-13 (BUMPER) Main Topic: Man Up!
-It’s easy to get engulfed in our things/guns and forget that guns are not our first priority. God is. Then our family. Then our church/friends.
-As men, we have a responsibility to lead our family AND be leaders in our church.
-If a man has to wait for his wife to nag him before he takes leadership action, there’s something wrong.
-So many men today look over this. (Husbands don’t pay attention to their wives and kids, or put more focus on their guns than their family.) This is wrong.
(BUMPER) Wish List:
-Marlin 1894 in 45 lc for my cowboy Action.
-A good quad rail for my Windham AR-15 I haven't found one that I like under 100$
-Concealment solutions holster for my xd9 with I a Crimson LG-448 LASERGUARD® FOR SPRINGFIELD ARMORY XD AND XD(M).
I am looking at getting my CHL and would like to get a semi-auto pistol to carry and have for home defense but don’t have much of a budget hoping you could give some insight. I was thinking a Taurus PT709 slim 9mm.
I would also like a lever action .22 rifle for fun and to teach my two boys to shoot when they get a little older.
I do have a wish list but it truly is almost a fantasy instead of a dream. Dreams can come true and fantasies do not. A lot of it is wants and very little needs. I do own quite a few firearms already and just recently fulfilled my last requirement to do more three gunning with the purchase of a Mossberg 930 semi auto 12 gauge shotgun and +4 Nordic components tube extension. Here goes the list: Barrett .50BMG, Kimber custom carry 10mm(any 10mm would do), .338 Lapua Savage 111/11 long range hunter, smith and Wesson M&P 10, IWI tavor rifle, Glock 30S ( new 30 with the 36 slide), custom CZ 75 SP-01 shadow, new Sig Sauer 227 (double stack .45ACP), AR upper in .300 AAC blackout and a suppressor for it, really nice Night Force scope, and a place to shoot 1000 yards in my backyard. :) I live in the occupied territory of Colorado so as of July 1, many of these truly are fantasies.
