-James from Canada says: “I just found your podcast on iTunes and I have listened to all your current episodes. Please keep growing in The Lord and informing us about gun issues and how it parallels biblical stories and verses. I teach the youth at my church periodically using parallels with orienteering and survival skills. I am enjoying learning about firearms and survival skills and passing on what I learn to my children and youth group. Many of my church members visit our local gun club (East Elgin Sportsman Association) for the annual open house and I teach the youth parallels in the word and real life skills. The kids enjoy learning about using a compass and what throws them off or what happens not using one, firearm safety ( my father-in-law in Virginia and I put my family and my sister-in-laws through a powerpoint gun safety course before we had a family day at the Clark Brothers Gun Shop! The RO there was impressed with the supervision of the young ones and because of our numbers allowed us to use our pistols on the rifle range as well as our rifles, knives ( two edge sword), etc. I find hands on really opens their minds to the actual bible based teachings and not just what to think but how to think through issues from a Godly perspective. In the future I will be paralleling Joseph and storing food, water and ammo (prepping), not judging but discerning evil, and many more topics. Your podcast and a couple of others really inspire me!

Great show guys!

I'm training to be an Army Chaplain, I think military chaplaincy would a great topic for your show. Specifically the struggle with not being able to carry a weapon on the battlefield, and the theology behind it.

Weekly Bible Verse: Hebrew 12:1-6

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. 4 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. 5 And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,

“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,

and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,

6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,

and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.” (NIV)

Synopsis: Machine Gun Preacher is the inspirational true story of Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing criminal who undergoes an astonishing transformation and finds an unexpected calling as the savior of hundreds of kidnapped and orphaned children. Gerard Butler (300) delivers a searing performance as Childers, the impassioned founder of the Angels of East Africa rescue organization in Golden Globe-nominated director Marc Forster’s (Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland) moving story of violence and redemption.

When ex-biker-gang member Sam Childers (Butler) makes the life-changing decision to go to East Africa to help repair homes destroyed by civil war, he is outraged by the unspeakable horrors faced by the region’s vulnerable populace, especially the children. Ignoring the warnings of more experienced aide workers, Sam breaks ground for an orphanage where it’s most needed in the middle of territory controlled by the brutal Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), a renegade militia that forces youngsters to become soldiers before they even reach their teens.

But for Sam, it is not enough to shelter the LRA’s intended victims. Determined to save as many as possible, he leads armed missions deep into enemy territory to retrieve kidnapped children, restoring peace to their lives - and eventually his own. The explosive, real-life tale of a man who has rescued over a thousand orphans from starvation, disease and enslavement, Machine Gun Preacher also stars Michelle Monaghan (Due Date), Kathy Baker (Cold Mountain), Madeline Carroll (Mr. Popper’s Penguins), Academy Award® nominated Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) and Souleymane Sy Savane (“Damages”).
