God and Guns Podcast

Episode 004 - Christian Review of Zero Dark Thirty

Intro:

Welcome back to the God and Guns Podcast. My name’s Mike, your host, (Zack) And I’m Zack, your other host.

Zack and I use this podcast to talk about God, guns, and the responsible Christian gun owners interests.

Today Greg, from Gun Guy Radio, will be joining us as we review Zero Dark Thirty. How you doing Greg?

Comedy Corner:

If Chuck Norris were ever to run out of ammo, his weapon would continue to fire out of fear

of disappointing him.

Little Boy in church Joke:

A mother took her little boy to church.

While in church the little boy said, “Mommy, I have to pee.”

The mother said to the little boy, “It’s not appropriate to say the word ‘pee’ in church. So, from now on whenever you have to ‘pee’ just tell me that you have to ‘whisper’.”

The following Sunday, the little boy went to church with his father and during the service said to his father, “Daddy, I have to whisper.“

The father looked at him and said, “Okay, just whisper in my ear.”

Listener Email:

Josh: “Hey guys, great show. Thank you for putting it on. Just what I was looking for.”

Kyle: “ Hey guys! Found out about your podcast through gun guy radio. I must say... In very impressed with how you've tied in the message. It seems you guys have turned this into a ministry! I would like to ask you guys a favor if at all possible. I'm studying Kung Fu with Here I Stand Kung Fu... We’re just an instructor and two students but we believe God is leading us to pursue a ministry with this school. Like the title implies, we take Martin Luther's bold stance before the elite clergy of his day proclaiming Faith Alone and Christ Alone and did not back down an inch... Much like our Christian lives should be.

Here I Stand Kung Fu is on facebook.

Dan: “Mike & Zack, Recently I was introduced to AR-15 podcast, which led me to Gun Guy

Radio, and then I heard mentioned that there was a God and Guns podcast, so I came here to listen...

I was surprised though that there was no mention of Nehemiah.”

Rob: “Mike, You and Zack are putting on a really good podcast. As a Christian and gun enthusiast you have already touched on many of the topics that are on my mind in relation to moral questions. Your last show about letting guns become an idol was convicting and right on. There have been many times when my zeal for guns out ways that for The Lord as much as I hate to admit that. Money has been an issue lately so I can not afford to shoot much so it has not been as bad of an issue but it certainly can tip to the sin side. One of my big struggles I have is if it’s right to use violence to resist tyranny that would undermine the rule of law in this nation. I know I am a Christian first and an American second. The resistance I am talking about would be defensive Not offensive. We are to respect governmental authority but what if that authority would one day seek to undermine rule of law established in this country and try to confiscate arms or food supply like Stalin did to Ukraine? What is the line a Christian should draw? Civil disobedience? Violent opposition? Or no opposition? It would be really cool to have a show topic on that question (although I know you guys shy away from the political side). Just wondering where other Christians fall on the issue and you guys seem very well grounded in reality. Also would you all ever discuss church carry? I live in Texas where it is legal. Both my wife and I carry regularly. Come to find out there are many in our congregation who carry including a few of our pastors. I would have never known until it came up in conversation one day.

I’m getting long winded but thank you all for filling a void in gun talks shows that needed to be filled! Don't worry about that one star rating. Keep up the good work!”

Main Topic: Zero Dark Thirty

-Awards: Nominated for fiveacademy awards.

Earned fourGolden Globe nominations, Jessica Chastain won best actress.

- A new genre - procedural drama- Methodical

-Re-unites Mark Boal (Writer) and Kathryn Bigelow from the Hurt Locker.

-Controversy over the film? (torture- does this movie glorify torture?)

-How true is Maya’s (Jessica Chastain) story in the film? It seems to be accurate at least there is a female CIA officer, her identity is classified of course.

-Did one of the choppers crash in real life? Yes

-Dislikes about the film:

Mike: I don’t know if I had a dislike. I do think the portrayal of the torturing was played down significantly if I had to guess.

Zack: Complaints from Bin Laden Shooter - Seals don’t yell breacher during a op. fist to the helmet sufficient signal / dumb tattoos on Seals.

Greg:

-Favorite part of the film:

Mike:Definitely the raid at the end. I liked how the Arab guy on the team lured out the bad guys by speaking their native dialect. “Osama, Osama, Bang!”

Zack:

Greg:

-What guns did you see?

imfdb.net has this list

-The AN/PEQ-2 was sweet!! The seals had it on their HK416’s. It has twoinfrared laser emitters—one narrow beam used for aiming the rifle, and one wide beam used for illuminating targets, like aflashlight. The beams can only be seen throughnight vision goggles. Each beam can be zeroed independently, and the illuminator's radius is adjustable.

iTunes Reviews and facebook feedback:

Cory: (facebook) “One quick thing to add to your conversation about things that could take the place of Christ in our lives. Even very good things like church work and family can sometimes get in the way of our pursuit of God.”

Tony: (facebook) “Well y'all beat me to it. Me and my brother law were going to do the same thing. He is a preacher and I am the gun guy but we couldn't make the time. But I'm glad that you guys did,it is something that the podcast community needed and I think that it'll do we'll. I love the show. Y'all are doing a great job. Keep up the good work.”

- Tony mentioned that his daughter passed away last year so lets keep his family in our prayers.
