Carol commented on Tom's food log and Tom responded: I have a bad habit of snacking at night and do not list it. Hence- my weight loss has stalled. But I know what the problem is and I am waiting for the internal switch to flip so that I can start up again. I've noticed that when I was on track I was extremely motivated to lose and did. I don't know how or why but something clicked and I made it happen.   In my opinion, there is no diet or exercise or magic pill that will help anyone lose weight, stop smoking or anything else unless it truly comes from the inside and there is motivation and only then will you see real results.

I'm friends with Tom on myfitnesspal so this isn't really show feedback.  But I thought his analogy of that "switch" was very insightful.  I asked him if I could share this because I think a lot of us can identify with that.  If the switch is off... we need to find the thing that will switch it back on.  It's okay if it turns off.  Everyone's does.  And it's okay if you don't find the "on" switch right away.  But don't stop trying to figure it out.  We applaud Tom for sticking it out on MFP even when he doesn't have the deep desire for it right now.  Just keep on keepin' on Tom.  You'll come across your switch.  I'm sure of it!  - Carol
