Good morning y'all.  In the last year, I've lost 30 pounds and gotten in the best shape of my life.

I'm 43, father of two (6 & 10), and a former fat, asthmatic, allergic, lazy kid. My wonderful wife of almost 24 years started exercising about a year and a half ago and she really inspired me. She was not fat by any stretch of the imagination, but she started toning up and got my attention. Her encouragement was huge. So, here's what I did:

  1. started eating better quality food and smaller portions, and avoiding processed foods.
  2. I started Invisalign and CrossFit on the same day. Invisalign was a big help for me because I would nibble, snack and graze all day. Invisalign showed me that snacking was not worth the extra time of flossing and brushing after each and every snack.
  3.  CrossFit was a perfect fit for my life because it is a fast, time-efficient workout. The smaller classes/groups are a plus also. There is always a coach there encouraging, correcting and even pushing me to do more and not hurt myself.
  4. I went more Paleo style nutrition and have eliminated most of the grains from my diet
  5.  I started using FitBit and tracking all of my intake and activity. Wow, that helped keep me honest and relearn what a serving size really is.
  6.  I didn't really use the scale at first. I saw my progress in my pants getting loser
  7.  I practice moderation in all things, including moderation.

Some things I've noticed since I started eating better and avoiding the processed garbage foods: I have more energy! I don't have to use my allergy medicine every day, and now, I rarely need it.

On FitBit, if y'all set up a group, I'll play.

Zack, you seem to be looking at your weight loss through a scope on 9x, try and dial it back to 3x and get back on target! Set small, achievable goals on the way to larger ones. Track your progress and don't just look at the short term, look at the long term.
