F2FHQ 128 - Tough Mudder Vegas

If we can do this - YOU can do this!  The Gun Runners survived the Nevada desert and are here to give you the scoop on how it went. Welcome to the Fat2fit HQ podcast!  I am your host, Carol Salva, of the Firearms Radio Network.  In this podcast, we are chronicling our journeys from Fat 2 Fit.  We talk about pursuing a healthier lifestyle, not only in diet but in all areas of life.  Well… sort of.  We have not been chronicling the journey much lately but we are still trying to do healthy things as we are able.  This show is a great example of that.

This is a recap of a mud run that we did earlier this year with our Firearms Radio Network team "The Gun Runners."  None of us are ultra athletes or super trained for endurance sports.  Instead, we are a group of like-minded individuals who came together from far and wide to help each other complete one of the toughest events on the planet.  We took ALL DAY LONG to complete the 10 mile obstacle course.  But we also laughed and laughed and laughed all day long.  It was awesome.  Listen in this week to get an idea of what a team run/walk can do for you.  It was very tough but also very inspirational.  Many thanks to the amazing folks who joined together that day.

Jeremy grew up in a small farm town in Ohio  He started shooting at 8 yrs old with a lever action Marlin Gold Trigger. He spent four Years USMC and was awarded the company high shot.  He also spent five years riding bulls, and worked several years as a security agent for a heavy metal band. Paul G. Markel has worn many hats during his lifetime. He has been a U.S. Marine, Police Officer, Professional Bodyguard, and Small Arms and Tactics Instructor. Mr. Markel has been writing professionally for law enforcement and firearms periodicals for nearly twenty years with hundreds and hundreds of articles in print. Paul is a regular guest on nationally syndicated radio talk shows and subject matter expert in firearms training and use of force.  Mr. Markel has been teaching safe and effective firearms handling to students young and old for decades and has worked actively with the 4H Shooting Sports program. Paul holds numerous instructor certifications in multiple disciplines; nonetheless, he is and will remain a dedicated Student of the Gun.

Jarrad Markel

Not just another pretty face, Jarrad Markel has experience and training beyond his years.  Jarrad has been training to be a fighter since elementary school when he first learned the art of collegiate wrestling.  Now skilled in Jujitsu, Judo, Muay Thai, Sambo, the Way of the Fighting Pistol and Fighting Rifle, Jarrad is a well-rounded, tactical athlete with several professional MMA fights under his belt.  More than a brute, Jarrad has brains as well. He is the lead editor and videographer for Student of the Gun and works directly for Think On! Productions creating a wide variety of video material. In addition, Markel is a skilled webmaster, building material for the Internet side of the house.

Counting calories is out of fashion.  We aren't supposed to worry about getting too many if we are getting lots of nutrient dense foods.  But what if you're getting a lot of nutrient dense foods and it isn't very many calories at all? Somehow that is a bad thing.  This week we talk about this double standard and the possible negative implications of going below your recommended caloric intake.
